THE PR PRESS PREMIERE: CHRIS HO - “FAKE NEWS”
I’m captured by the soundscape; charmed folk/indie pop that speaks to disguise and liberation. Ho worked closely with producer Shane Stephenson (Nice.) and together they built the perfect foundation—adorned with tape effects on acoustic guitar, RC-20 Retro Color, piano, and electronically-produced kick drums. It has a cozy vintage feel that lifts without second thought, layered textures that bring life to the narrative. I feel ease and comfort in the earnest, cinematic tones.
His bravery and sincerity beams in his vocals. The processing of dreams and what they stand for in a larger context, striving for peace and acceptance, and finding oneself, all an emotional tour into Ho’s musing mind. As much as it is a personal record, “Fake News” bears a kinship, a safe space for realization and the formation of identity.
Like liquid courage (but without the alcohol), it fuels a sensation that uses our sensitivity and trust to awaken a spirit within. The music video is another vessel for the overarching message, with Ho’s own conflict manifested. I love the visuals and the metaphors used – travelling from one place to another on train tracks, the light from a lamp and being our authentic self, unconditionally. We build walls and hear noise, but how gratifying it is to not only think, but see what we could be.
“Fake News” offers that time to discover, a genuine heart that asks who we are when we wake.
