Chris Weidman retires from MMA. Called it a career on the UFC 311 weigh-in show.

Weidman has been washed as an athlete for basically a full decade now, so there are whole generations of fans who don’t understand how good he was at the height of his powers.

Weidman might have been the most skilled middleweight the sport has ever seen. A guy, who in his 10th ever pro fight, knocked out the P4P best fighter in the sport at the time. A guy who defended the middleweight title 3x. A guy who, as a purple belt (I think he’d realistically only been doing BJJ for a year), took Andre Galvao to the limit at ADCC. If it weren’t for his body falling apart from the neck down, I think we’d talk about Weidman as a top 10 fighter all time. He had that much potential.
