Drabble Ask Game

Chris Rodriguez hears the curses and the clanking noises before he even opens the door to take out the trash.

Just what he needed. A monster on a Saturday night. Setting the trash bag near the door, he takes out the palm-wide flashlight from his pocket, his thumb hovering over the heart carved on the metal body.

Charles and Clarisse had laughed when he first showed it to them, Chris's heart sizzles. Before Silena convinced them to carve matching ones.

He presses the button, a spear springing tall instead of a beam of light.

When he opens the door, it is not a stray hellhound to pet or a dracanae lady asking for directions that greets him. No, it is something, someone, worse.

"Alabaster." He gasps.

The son of Hecate sways on his feet, the glowing index card fluttering to the asphalt as he collapses against the mailbox he was holding onto. Alabaster blinks slowly, recognition and disgust creeping over his expression.

At least they still have that in common.

"Chris..?"

Chris opens his mouth, before closing it upon the sight of Alabaster's state. Eyebags bigger and darker than a manhole framed his face, for one, the wildfire green he came to love and then hate dulled by exhaustion. For two, blood gushed from his left leg, the pants clawed open.

Panic surges through his body. He rushes forward, reaching for the boy in front of him when a cold blade settles on the bob of his throat and even colder eyes on his own, "Do not even try."

Gleaming imperial gold shone between them under the midday sun, the sword shaking from Alabaster's trembling grip on it.

So Chris takes one step back, closing his spear into the inconspicuous little red flashlight and holds out his hands in the air. "Hellhound?"

"What is it to you?" Alabaster sneers, pale from the blood loss, "You can't pet her, she is dead. For today, at least."

In hindsight maybe he would be more concerned about the "for today" if he wasn't fixated on the crimson liquid pooling on the ground.

"Ambrosia." Chris inhales, "I can fetch you some—"

"I don't need your help." He bites out, ever the prick.

Chris arches a single eyebrow, and points to the mistcard on the floor, painted with a sigil he knows Alabaster uses for healing.

"I don't—" His face is flushed, his eyes unfocused.

"I can grab some from my apartment real quick."

"Fine," Alabaster murmurs, sliding down until he sits on the asphalt.

Chris runs up the stairs till he reaches his flat, then down back to the street, hoping Alabaster will still be there. He throws the square package into the other boy's lap. While he nibbles on the ambrosia, Chris crouches next to him, "I thought you were dead."

He had looked. Asked around for any news about the General to the empousai. Stiffled his own conflicted feelings down and tried to look after Lou until he left the camp himself.

"Got a taste of your own medicine then." Alabaster's head slumps on Chris's shoulder, his breathing rattled.

"Stay?" He hesitantly asks.

"Stay where? The camp?" Alabaster scoffs.

"Please," Chris's voice breaks, all the grief and guilt he did not allow himself to feel catching up to him, "Can you just stay? For me?"

"And do you, Rodriguez?" Alabaster gazes him up and down, "Stay at camp? Why are you not there then?"

Chris inhales sharply, flinching, hard, "...I would if you were there."

Alabaster laughs, the bell-like chimes turning harsher and harsher into a witch's cackles, cold and as cruel. Reminder of why they even had a falling out in the first place.

"Fuck you." Alabaster's voice is sobering, yanking him harshly out of his nostalgic daydreams, "You will not be invited to my funeral."

And Chris once again finds himself alone, sitting in a pile of blood that isn't his own.

The (unfortunate) Chrisethabaster polycule

Just some random headcanons, idk

-> The three of them used to be friends for some time, while they were stuck unclaimed in the Hermes cabin. Chris and Alabaster looked up to Luke a lot, while Ethan not as much. They sometimes snuck out after “bedtime”, and, even though he wouldn’t admit it, both Ethan and Chris were Alabaster’s queer awakenings.

-> Chris was the first to join Luke after TLT, and Alabaster followed soon enough. He promised Ethan he’d come back after him as soon as possible, but Ethan couldn’t help but be somewhat resentful for being left alone. A year afterwards, he ran away from camp and became a rogue until he joined the Army in BotL.

-> While they were both in the army, Chris and Al dated for a brief period. They broke up before Chris’s Labyrinth quest.

-> Despite not being together anymore, Alabaster took Chris joining Camp as a betrayal, not only to the Titan Army, but to himself. His resentment towards Chris only continued to grow as they drifted apart.

-> Once Ethan joined and Kronos was revived, him and Alabaster reconciled and (somewhat) resolved past problems. Initially, they were simply happy to be back together and “start over”. Especially Alabaster - who had spent years silently trying to get Ethan to join. Ethan figured he was aroace while they were apart, and they were in a queerplatonic relationship up to the Battle of Manhattan.

-> They rarely spoke of Chris. Alabaster almost didn’t want to say his name, but Ethan decided to get back in touch, so him and Chris ended up as pen pals. Chris’s messages consisted mostly of doodles- and, occasionally, information from inside camp.

-> Ethan and Al’s relationship started to grow tenser on the brink of the war. Ideals were conflicting, Alabaster was being more reckless with his actions, Ethan more stubborn. But before any mending attempts could be done…

-> The final rupture between them was the end of the war and Ethan’s death. With nothing holding them together anymore, Alabaster and Chris reconciled in doing their best to forget each other’s existence.

Alabaster was still wrathful.

But there was nothing left to be fixed.

The way I see it, they both bond over about monster's magical properties, and being close to Luke, and pranking the shit out of him upon Andromeda. And generally acting like the young teens they are. IT'S FRIENDS TO LOVERS! Even though they did not interact much in CHB they still saw eachother every day due to sharing a cabin so there was that as well.

But as the war goes on, Alabaster only get more and more loyal to Kronos and the cause while Chris. Well. He was never following Kronos to begin with, he was following *Luke*. So when he began to get disillusioned with the whole thing (following Luke's confession to him about the whole possession plan) plus the addition of the age difference between them; Chris stops seeing Al as a peer and starts seeing him as an annoying, immature kid who should not be in charge and does not know what he is doing </33

Al regains peer status again during TLO but that's also when Alabaster is attempting to murder Chris's ass LMFAO He searched for Chris in the Labyrinth, he thought he was dead, he MOURNED him—

And Chris did not even bother to send word with Silena that he lived. Al is pretty certain he did not even grieve the kids (who Chris knew and got along with or big brothered!) that died with Princess Andromeda, and he won't grieve the ones that died in BoM. So yeah, Alabaster will not bother to seek out Chris and tell him that the gods killed people he loved after the war, he will not bother to tell him that he lived. Let Chris wonder about his fate for all he cares, if Chris will even do that.
