Lush "Split", ORIGINAL UK pressing of the LP from 1994. I'm torn writing this post because I believe in Record Store Day, and supporting the ever-dwindling brick and mortar record stores of the world. Even more, the ones in my city of residence. I'm an avid music collector. I've had 5 radio shows, written (briefly) reviews for a magazine and amassed a collection I am proud of (and have moved it 6 times—once across the country). To say I'm bitter about this past RSD is harsh. I'd say I'm disappointed. I didn't get the opportunity of getting the Lush vinyl box set. Big whoop. I don't need a waaambulance. Not only am I a music collector, but I am a graphic designer by profession. I have a pretty huge collection of the 4AD catalog because I enjoy the music (the classic years) and the label's design aesthetic thanks to Ivo, Vaughan Oliver, Chris Bigg et al. My disappointment stems mainly from those who seem to think it is OK to rush into a store and/or be at the beginning of the line to get in, on RSD, and immediately SELL on eBay what they purchased. Sometimes marking things up over 100% (or at least they are selling for that because it's an auction site people!) it's the SAME as people/companies buying tickets for a concert and then selling them for double and triple face-value. How does this support small stores? It doesn't. The only person it's supporting—the "music scalpers". And, well, eBay. I've bought music through eBay. In fact I have bought two limited Lush releases, the "For Love" 10" vinyl and the limited double 10" gatefold "Spooky" release (man, that's a beauty). But I never dropped more thank what they were worth, and the people I bought from were not snatching these up and selling them within an hour of purchase. I really think the RSD is a good thing, but also feel it's a bad thing too. Because the people who give a shit about it, who REALLY will cherish these things, lose out. #recordstoreday #lush #lushband #lushbandofficial #4ad #chrisbigg #vaughanoliver #lushsplitalbum #mikiberenyi #emmaanderson #philipking #chrisacland #fastforwardreverse #shoegazerdj #shoegaze #indiemusic #dreampop #britpop
