This song hits home for me in THE best way.

I have been a fan of @motionlessinwhite for quite awhile now. I found them when I was going through a really dark time in my life during high school. Like many other MIW fans, the album “Creatures” is my absolute favorite. The album art, the colors, the lyrics, the sound—it has definitely become a cherished album.

When I heard this part of “Afraid Of The Dark”: “and now I know, I don’t have to do this alone, a creature that found a home”, those words couldn’t have been more true. I feel like many MIW fans can relate. The timing of the song release was perfect. In this past year I have put in a lot of tough love and hard labor into my mental health. And I finally feel like I am home. Things are finally aligning.

I will forever cherish this song. Thank you, MIW 🖤💜💚

LIKE RATS - Prologue

Don’t say his name: feel it. Locate the the first phoneme, the initial /k/. The sound starts not in your mouth but deep in the base of your throat. It is the sound of a catch in your breath, a hitch in your body.

Feel it: /k/.

Feel it rumble up, rumble through you, rumble along and roll your tongue into a final flail of submission. Roll your tongue along the postalveolar sound. Feel it graze your teeth, just barely. Be careful not to bite.

Release your breath on the /i/, and only then realize you’ve held it. You held your breath for this release in anticipation of the trailing /s/, a slide of the tongue, subtle and serpentine.

Feel his name in your mouth, your chest, your belly. Feel his name through your fingers and toes. Feel his name and you needn’t say it.

Feel it guarded close to your heart.
