Hello! I know you normally use SAI to do your digital drawings but I only have photoshop. I can't seem to find any good sketching brushes. Do you have any ideas?

You can always buy pencil looking brushes. There are many on the internet, some of them really, really good. Maybe browse deviantart (there are also many free sets). Or you can experiment and change settings of those you already have, or create one by yourself (just look for tutorials on how to create ps brushes). Idk. I’ll probably have to invest in some nice brushes myself :)

Falling Star Edit Tutorial

Okay. I have had several people asking how I make my character aesthetics into gifs. This is a brief explanation of my process. To do this type of edit all you need is just Photoshop, basic editing skills and an finished character edit.This is my second tutorial so sorry if things aren’t super clear. Please message me if you have any questions!

This tutorial assumes that you already have a finished character edit. If you need a refresher or don’t know how please check out my previous tutorial on how to make matching backgrounds for character aesthetics.

Next, you will need to find a Falling Star/Glitter/Snow PSD on Tumblr or Google. They are everywhere so just find one that you like and think it pretty. Or find a gif of falling stars as save it as a PSD. Just remember to ask someone before taking their gifs/resources. I recommend finding one that has a black background and white/light stars. Mine looks like this.

Step 1: Open up Photoshop and open both the final image and the PSD of the falling stars. I am using PS CS6, but any version should work.

Step 2: Now click on the falling star PSD and then open up the “timeline” window. You do this by clicking on "window" (it's next to the help drop down menu) and then go down to "timeline". 

Now your screen should look like this:

Step 3: Now you need to make the falling stars PSD the same size as your character edit. My character aesthetics are 400x496 (pixels). You do this by clicking image -> image size.

It should look something like this! Uncheck the "constrain proportions" if you have too, to make it the right size. Once you do this you the PSD might look a little weird, but that’s okay for how we are going to use it. It should now look like this.   

Step 4:   Now pull down the character edit so it and the PSD are in the same window. 

Okay! So now that they are the same size drag the edit on top of the PSD.

Now line up the images so they match up perfectly and you can’t see the falling stars background.

Step 5: So over on the side on “layers” drag the character edit layer underneath the falling star layer.

Once you do that set the falling star “layer” to screen.

Now your image should look like this:

Step 6:  After you do that you have to make sure that the timelines match up. You might have to move the slider to view the whole timeline.

Step 7:  So now we save the gif. For me, I click file->save for web. Yours might say file->save optimized as.

This should now pop up. Make sure that the “looping options” is set to forever. You can push the play button and see your beautiful creation! Then click save and name your gif.

Now your gif is ready! Then you just repeat the process for your other images!
