I like how all the different groups that came out of the Restorationist movement are still around, the Church of Christ, Unitarians, Adventists, Christadelphians, and Mormons.

But all of them besides the Mormons stayed pretty conformist on orthodox doctrine, and quietly plod along with relatively small populations that most people wouldn't even notice as anything outside of the mainline Protestant denominations.

Meanwhile Smith got all weird with it, everyone turned on him, he got killed, they were forced to flee the country, and then got even WEIRDER with it -- and somehow THAT group is bigger and more successful than everyone else. And is only now slowly starting to get down to the boring mainline plodding thing.

I mean I guess the plural marriage thing helped with the population numbers. But the Mormon church has always been hyper-focused on missionary work, too, that the others were / are not. That seems to make a difference.

Plus the culture still always pointing and laughing at Mormons means the average person knows way more about their doctrine than anyone elses.

Like you've probably never even heard of the Christadelphians, and certainly don't know that they deny the existence of an immortal soul and the Devil / demons (still have angels though; not sure how that works).

And no, Jehovah's Witnesses and the Amish aren't Restorationists. America has a big revivalist movement every like 50 years that generates a whole new mess of denominations that all kind of run together. Telling them all apart and why it matters is a fool's errand, and I only do it because my brain is only really good at utterly useless trivia-based things.
