Fun fact: it was a catholic priest who hypothesized the big bang theory we know today because he felt it pointed towards a creator. Whether you accept the big bang/evolution or not is up to you, but I just wanted to point out the fact that a lot of our current understanding of science was developed by believers, with this being an example.
Is this a fun fact? I have fun thinking about the lengths people will go to to avoid the truth - the way you might have fun watching someone go to great lengths to avoid talking to an acquaintance in a grocery store. Mildly entertaining, mostly sad to see. Just because someone is a Catholic priest does not mean they believe the truth - it may mean they believe some of the truth, or that they believe none of the truth and think that what they believe is the truth. There was no big bang. At all. It doesn't matter what a Catholic priest hypothesized. The Bible is very clear about how everything came to be. The Catholic priest could have a brain the size of Mars and if what he said is contrary to what the Bible says, he's wrong, end of discussion. :] I wouldn't say a lot of our current understanding of science was developed by believers if what you mean by "our current understanding of science" includes things that go in the opposite direction of what's true. People who belong to the Lord believe what the Bible says. The Bible says God created the world in a week by speaking. No explosion. No evolution. He said it, and it happened, and there's no way around that. Now, does real science point unavoidably to the existence of intentionality in all creation? To design? One hundred percent. It's fascinating. Creation does point to a Creator. But there was no big bang. People really like to pick and choose pieces of the truth and attempt to tweak it so that they don't have to give up what makes them feel comfortable or in control. If only they knew how much easier it is to accept who we really are and how things really work, and then to make one's decisions based on that. To recognize we control nothing is the most freeing experience.
