It had been quite a day for Aleksandr. He didn’t have as much mobility as he would like, but that didn’t stop him from getting up and doing a few chores around the house. This place, this new place, it was different, but it was also better. It seemed brighter and happier and it had everything from their old flat in it, so it really did feel like home. He felt like he over did himself, though. Pain was radiating through his body, and with Christian already in bed (having tried to get Aleksandr go with him hours before), Aleksandr knew it was time to retire. He was hoping he’d be back to peak level sooner rather than later. He hated sitting around and feeling useless, feeling like he can’t take care of himself or just…do things on his own. Even though he knew that Christian would be more than happy to dote on him twenty-four hours a day, Aleksandr wanted him to focus on other things, not worry himself so much.
It was now close to midnight, and Aleksandr was going back through the flat to make sure it was properly locked and that the alarm was set. Since being back, he’s been a bit paranoid about the windows and doors. Even if he would see Christian lock the doors, shut the windows, and put on the alarm, he would have to go back over it to check it. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust his fiancé, because he did, it was just something he needed to do. After he was sure everything was secure, he turned out the lights and hobbled his way to bed.
When he got to the bedroom, he couldn’t help the smile that came over him when he saw his fiancé’s sleeping form. He pulled off his jacket, tossing it towards the closet, and then crawled into bed, hissing a little when the movements put too much pressure on the hurt parts of his body. All Aleksandr had to do now was snuggled up against Christian, and the taller man would put his arms around him. It was a comforting routine, really. Despite all the fuss Aleksandr made about not wanting, or needing, to be protected, he really did love when Christian would hold him close. When he could feel the other’s heart beating, it brought hope and happiness alive in him.
It didn’t take him too long to drift off into sleep, the warmth of the bigger man surrounding him made it easy to forget the world. Unfortunately, it didn’t last.
He wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but images started to flow in, fragments of things that make no sense at all. Shouting. Punching. Crying. Laughing. Blonde hair. Blue eyes. Blood. Gun shots. Pain.
He awoke with a start, sitting up, breathing as if he had just run a marathon. There were hands on him, and he jumped, trying to move away, but the voice cut through. And god, what a lovely voice it was. Despite that, he was scared. Suddenly, there was so much in his head. Empty spaces were now filled. Fuzzy images were now clear. Muffled words were now loud and clear.
The past two years of his life hit him like a semi-truck.
“…Aleks! Are you okay? What’s wrong?” Christian sounded so worried, and fuck, he hated that. He hated how desperate he sounded, how helpless. “It was just a dream, alright? You’re safe.”
He turned to look at his lover, trying his best to give him a reassuring smile. “I know I am. I’m fine, Christian.” He said gently, his breathing starting to return to normal. “I just…I remember. I remember everything.”
Christian looked confused for a second. Aleksandr saw the wheels turning in his fiancé’s head and he saw the moment when it clicked. Christian’s eyes went wide. “You…everything?”
The Russian nodded. “Everything.”
“Are you okay?”
Aleksandr really didn’t have an answer for that one. He wasn’t okay before he lost his memory, and he remembers exactly how he was feeling before. He remembers being a down right dick to Evie, pushing everyone away, having conversations with Roman, he remembers the explosions; “I’ll let you know in the morning.”
Christian leaned over, giving Aleksandr a small kiss on the lips. “Okay. Okay, just…get some rest.” Christian laid back down, gently tugging Aleksandr with him, wrapping his arms back around him and holding him close. “Just get some sleep.”
The Russian snuggled into the embrace, but it didn’t shut off his mind. It was racing, now. Full of lost memories he thought he’d never get back. He squeezed his eyes shut and tried to will it to stop. Just for now. In the morning, he’d deal with this.
