A standing crane
Mughal India, ca. 1650
Opaque pigments heightened with silver on paper, set within gold rules, ascribed below to 'Ali Reza, buff inner borders on blue margins speckled with gold, laid down on card, mounted, framed and glazed.
This detailed rendering of a demoiselle crane, found in the Western regions of India during the winter time, reflects the Mughal tradition of naturalistic depictions of birds and animals that flourished in the 16th to 17th centuries.
