Ein is trying to woo you with a gold ingot! He's um... He's doing his best.
Heres something that I think Aphmau handled a lot better than practically any other Enemies to lovers story. We all know Aarmau is an enemies to lovers story, and theres a whole lot of cliches mixed in. (Nothing wrong with that ofc) Like the whole best friends online, or aaron saying hes liked aphmau since the day he first saw her. But its that last cliche we should focus on. In a whole lot of stories the “Ive loved you since I first saw you” it really just comes out of actual nowhere! Like bruh you threw a basketball at her head 4 chapters ago, I don’t think you were really IN LOVE with her if thats how you’re behaving! Anyways, what I noticed, in the official episode its not exactly clear he loved her from the very start, BUT! In the music video, and Phoenix Drop Days, we get little flashback segments where we can SEE aarons eyes absolutely soften when he looks at her!
When he first bumps into her, vs, when he gets a good look at her after bumping into her in the PDD (Phoenix Drop Days)
Same here in the “You Will Always be the One” music video! His EYES SOFTEN!!!
My point is that in the original episode you can’t see that loving look, but instead of just keeping it the exact same as the first episode, they make it CLEAR he fell in love at first sight with the newer content (Yea I know both of these have been out for literal years)
Secondly, in the typical EtL (Enemies to Lovers) bro is like ACTUALLY a huge dick to her, however in PDH the very next time we see Aaron he’s protecting Aph by throwing the werewolf thats hitting on her out a window. And sure shes not exactly pleased by this, but regardless, aaron is constantly subtly protecting her or defending her! The most bullying he does is his constant teasing, like calling her a stupid potato, petty competitions, etc. (I seriously cannot for the life of me remember if theres more, feel free to add on or even correct me.)
Third, second to last point I feel I need to make, the pay off. When they realize they are eachothers online best friend, its not instant. Sure in the season everyone says the change is over night. But thats just the surface! Aph is at first shocked and mad, she doesn’t want to believe Aaron is actually her best friend. And I saw another person comment on this (can’t remember who, or if it was on tumblr or yt) but she doesn’t call him Aaron for a bit, she calls him FC cause thats how she knows her best friendd, for at least a bit Aaron is a different person and it take a bit for her to combine the two. Which is nice!
Ok final point, holy moly Ive been yapping a lot. Again with Aaron protecting Aph. I can’t exactly remember which episode this happened in, but when that werewolf from episode one tries to force a kiss on her, he gets super angry over it. And I just overall is more protective after finding out Aph is Shu, and like its said he was in love with both at the same time, and can I point out how nice that is? I like how he doesn’t just completely move on from Shu when he meets Aph, he still loves shu and “flirts” over text, very subtle, another good thing. The usual cliche with Online friends mixed with Enemies to Lovers is that the guy pulls away when they meet irl. But FC doesn’t, hes still supporting her and talking to her like normal, because surprise everyone its not illegal to be in love with two people at once. And just like the cliche Im sure he’s very happy Shu and Aph are the same person, but its not out of guilt because he fell for another girl, its because both girls he likes are the same. I guess the cliche of him feeling guilty for falling for someone else would only work if he was actively pursuing his online friend, but my point still stands!
All in all I really like how Jess handled the Enemies to Lovers trope. And that last paragraph might be a little confusing honestly I was also confused when typing it, idk if it all made sense or if it was clear or if I got to all the details I wanted to point out.
Side note: while I was writing this whole yap fest I was listening to all the songs from My Street + spin offs. And Christopher Escalantes (Eins voice actor) covers are absolutely fantastic! Check them out!

Naomi sat in the center room of the dark, wood cabin, sat on the floor with a broken piece of a glass shard, next to a broken potion with a few drops of green liquid dripping onto the wooden floors.
Infront of the doorway, stood Ein, Naomi's highschool sweetheart. Maybe he would still be, if it wasn't for all this.
It all started from a green emerald, and him yearning for his dearest back. He didn't want to poison her pure heart with a potion. But if it was all it took for his dearest to love him back? He'd do it.
Naomi slowly stood up from the floor, walking towards him, the glass shard still staining her hand scratched with blood from how sharp the shard was.
".. Naomi, sweetheart." Ein says with a weak smile, walking towards her with open arms.
Blood.
Blood trickled down Ein's hand as Naomi injured his hand with the glass shard.
He winced, taking a step back and leaning against the cabin doorway.
".. Mimi, my sweetheart, what happened to you?-"
"I don't want to hear it." Naomi interrupted, her eyes once so purple and soft, green with lack of emotion, staring into his.
".. You made me hate you, Ein. Is this what you want? Hm?" She mumbled, taking a step forward.
He took a step back, his eyes staring at her.
He looked at her hand, the same hand that used to hold his when they ran in the rain in the middle of the road between cars.
He looked at her eyes. The once, oh so soft eyes that could look around a room for him for hours if they had to. The same eyes that used to look at his so lovingly,
Now staring back at him with hatred. Pure hatred.
Naomi took a step forward, the bloody glass shard dripping blood onto the floor, and her black, long dress.
".. Nao, we can talk this out, come on." He said, taking a step back, out the door.
"Maybe we can't." Naomi replied, taking a step closer.
Every step he took farther, a step of hers was matched forward.
They reached a far end of the snowy woods.
Ein, facing his dearest, holding a glass shard in his direction.
".. Why would you consider this, hm?" She whispered, tilting her head.
".. What .. do you mean?" He replied, confused.
"Making me like this, Ein. What else would I mean?" She answered, her sharp, green eyes staring into his grey ones, her head still tilted.
".. God, Naomi.. I never intended for this to happen." He groaned out, running a hand through his dark, blue hair.
"Maybe if you'd thought twice, I wouldn't be here." Naomi replied, the glass shard pointed at his neck.
".. Naomi.. I just wanted you to see me back. My love for you back." He sighed, staring at his feet. "Why did it have to be like this?"
"It didn't have to be, Ein. Love can come naturally, not by an empty glass and an emerald." Her eyes stared back into his boringly, the shard now pointed at his chest. His heart.
"Naomi, if you would just listen-"
"I won't! I don't want to!" She yelled out, the glass shard contacting with his part of his shirt, ripping through it.
Stab.
"Do you think I wanted to be like this? I really didn't! Love could've came naturally between us!"
Stab.
"If you'd just gave it a chance, Ein. But you refused! You wanted everything to come your way!"
Stab.
"Was hatred apart of your recipe? Was it?!"
Naomi, too lost in her own words, just slicing mercisely, far too lost to notice Ein on the floor, crimson blood tracing the white snow.
She slipped out of her anger, stopping, the glass, bloody shard on the ground.
".. Ein?" She whispered, looking at him, his eyes staring at his empty, grey eyes.
".. Oh shit, shit-.." She cries, dropping to her knees.
".. Ein.. Ein come on.. get up.." She mumbled between cries, shaking his shoulders to no avail.
No response.
".. This isn't funny, really." She says, one thumb caressing his face, trying to find any sign of his eyes.
".. Shit, shit, what have I done.." She mumbled, giving up.
She fell to his lifeless chest, sobbing as her tears wet his black shirt.
Maybe love could come naturally.
Maybe it didn't need stabbing into someone's heart to get sense into it.
