Book Set in the Summer : the Secret Wisdom of the Earth by Christopher Scotton
This was a wonderful read. I took this one slowly and deliberately. The topics were heavy and the writing was poignant. His similes had me re reading what I just had read….and gapping at how he managed to compare and relate certain things to one another….in an almost natural way.
This was a debut novel and you could tell in some respects, however, it felt genuine because of it. I really enjoyed watching Kevin’s (the main character) growing relationship with his grandfather, Pops. I enjoyed the multiple life lessons that Kevin was forced to learn through circumstances that befell him and that his Pops decided to subject him to.
Even when the author takes you years into the future (which usually never ends well) it is to continue to teach Kevin yet another life lesson about friendship and the fortune of our circumstances. Fabulous read and may even have a place in the greats of classic American literature.
