trying to be healthy in this country truly is like being in an absurdist play, except instead of one act, it's a damn opera.
I finally found a pain management doctor! We talked about My Whole Deal and it turns out I'm a good candidate for such-and-such in-office treatment. It takes a few visits, since they try it out to see if it works on one side, next visit the other side, then some subsequent rounds to see if it is a long-term solution or if we need to look at other treatment options. Great! I have the first appointment in early July, no problem, it works, I am optimistic for the first time in years and birds are singing etc. Schedule the next appointment for last week.
Last week: I get a call from Pain MGMT Dr's office- insurance denied prior authorization for the second session due to lack of referral. It's late afternoon so I have to just reschedule.
Since then: a series of calls, messages, etc. I receive assurances that the (redundant?) referral is coming, they will tell the Dr it's urgent, should process quickly, etc. Today I get a call from the Pain MGMT office just after 5PM- still haven't gotten it or the authorization.
Over the course of all these contacts I have determined that the following people: - Me - All the desk staff at Pain Dr's office - Four people from my PCP's office/the hospital referral dept/etc - Two different people WITH MY INSURANCE
all have NO IDEA why the second session of the same procedure with the same doctor and same coding was denied prior approval.
I just got off a chat with an insurance CSR, who said I should be 'good to go' for tomorrow, so I guess I am going to just head in and hope it is not a waste of time.
