I figured something out in Charleston on my last visit - when I left after my week there, it didn’t really feel like goodbye. Somehow, rather unintentionally, a place I have lived has remained a part of me after a move I made. Maybe it’s because I have been back once or twice a year since we left, or maybe it’s something in my heart and not simply letting go, starting over, and remaking myself in Fresno - whatever it is, I was just happy to be there, and on the flight back I was happy to have been there, and I laughed a little to myself because instead of leaving my home when we moved two years ago, I think I have just expanded my own backyard.
