fic: driving me insane, come play the game (chapter one)

Pairing: Christian Horner/Toto Wolff

Summary:

Crown Prince Christian of England knows there are some who do not want him on that throne - who believe that an omega could never be the King of England. Even his own father believes that Christian needs a strong alpha by his side to rule.

Grand Duke Torger Wolff of Austria knows that France will always continue to be a threat. So when an opportunity arises to ally his country with England in the most permanent way possible, he feels obliged to accept.

When the two proud royals meet, sparks fly - and not the good kind. Christian resents deeply that he must marry at all, let alone a total stranger. And Torger resents that he came all the way to England for a cold marriage of convenience.

As the years roll by, two questions must be answered: will Christian succeed his father on the throne of England, or will the web of conspiracies around the palace take advantage of the tensions in the royal bedroom?

And will Christian and Torger ever stop fighting long enough to produce an heir for England - and for Austria?

Samson by Regina Spektor is absolutely a CHTW song and heres why

please ignore any typos lol i just wrote this out real fast and have not proofread it 😳

The first lyrics are:

"You are my sweetest downfall"

And this could be very clearly connect to Sokkas love for Yue. It was supposed to be so sweet and youthful, but brought upon one of the greatest pains he's probably ever experienced. The next lyrics are:

"I loved you first, I loved you first"

The first part is said more strongly and confidently, but still wrought with grief, while the second part is more broken, and hurt, softer for fear of crumbling. this is definitely Sokka coming to terms that he will never love someone the way he loves Yue. Your first love is supposed to be beautiful and playful, but Sokka's finding himself absolutely destroyed.

"Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth"

At this part I imagine Yue singing to Sokka. She's been unable to tell him what's happening to her, and avoids texting him, bc she doesn't want to hurt him. The very next lines are:

"I have to go, I have to go"

This is Yue letting him know her time is cut short, also coming to terms with it herself. The second time she says "I have to go" its more firm. She knows this is the end and she's accepted it. Next is:

"Your hair was long when we first met"

I imagine Sokka is thinking back on all of their past memories together... This lyric is pretty self explanatory idk.

"Samson went back to bed Not much hair left on his head"

Going "back to bed' is DEFINITELY Yue passing. shes returning to the stars.

"He ate a slice of Wonder bread, and went right back to bed

And history books forgot about us and the Bible didn't mention us And the Bible didn't mention us, not even once"

I feel like this Sokkas grief afterwards. The entire world has began to move on and Sokka is still stuck, completely destroyed after his loss. The people he passes in the street, will never know of Yue and will never know of his pain, and it just feels so UNJUST. The next section is the chorus:

"You are my sweetest downfall I loved you first, I loved you first

Beneath the stars came falling on our heads But they're just old light, they're just old light

Your hair was long when we first met"

The stars falling on their heads is Sokkas world falling apart. Nothing will ever be the same. The "old light" thats described is perhaps how dull everything is now. Nothing will ever be the same without Yue.

"Oh, I cut his hair myself one night A pair of dull scissors in the yellow light

And he told me that I'd done alright And kissed me 'til the morning light, the morning light And he kissed me 'til the morning light"

This is Sokka bleaching and cutting Yues hair and them falling asleep in each others arms. A small section from the next verse is:

"Oh, we couldn't bring the columns down

Yeah, we couldn't destroy a single one"

This is Sokka having no way to deal with his grief. He's lost someone so precious to him and he struggles dealing with that grief and expressing his pain. The final lyrics are:

"You are my sweetest downfall

I loved you first"

This is Sokka finally beginning to heal and recognizing that what happened to Yue is unfair but she wouldn't want him to linger in pain. "I loved you first" is sung in an almost whisper. He will always love Yue, but its time to move on.
