- Yeah, naw, this man was already chubby before I got to him.

- Remember when he said he needs to have his jacket let out at the ball ? It's because he gained weight and his jacket was tighter than it was when he was a young templar.

- Remember how he said that Sara kept trying to feed him cake because he looked hungry ? I suspect that he put himself on a diet but was being a grumpy butt, so she fed him.

- His armor just hides his chunkyness well but you can still tell that that man is thick around the waist.

- His weight sticks to his stomach, hips and ass (which is why those gross ass nobles kept groping his ass)

- He still has a lot of muscle, but his fat is just more visible.

- But he isn't in the field as much anymore and has a cushy new desk job and with Sara bringing him a bushel of sweets everyday, he's bound to put on more pounds.

- He tries desperately to diet along with exercise, but his diets keep getting sabotaged. Everyone has seen how grumpy Cullen is when he's hungry, so they get on board with Sara and feed him too.

- He also still eats like an active soldier, so he'll eat seconds, thirds and dessert even though he isn't as active on the field anymore and mostly sits behind a desk, doing paperwork.

- He also stress eats because it takes his mind off of lyrium, so there's that too. It's no wonder why he can't shed the pounds.

- But he also excercises, so he gets more of a musclechub body. Muscular arms and legs, thick thighs, juicy bubble butt and a pair of perky pecs resting on top of his rounded belly.

- He hates it at first because he's claims that he's 'letting himself go' but if he's in a romance with the Inquisitor, they're gonna show Cullen how much they really love his body and suddenly, he won't have a problem with the changes anymore.

- Even if he isn't in a romance with the Inquisitor, everyone will comment on how happy and healthy he looks and that he looks good. At first he thinks they're trying to butter him up, but they genuinely think that he looks good. And when he figures that out, he's a flustered mess but learns to appreciate his body.

Today I’m really feeling soft Cullen, Cullen who’s gained some weight, Cullen with a tummy, Cullen who’s been sitting at a desk for the better part of two years and isn’t getting any younger.  

Just give me some soft squeezable Cullen.

Butter Cakes and Cherry Tarts

Inspired by @decadentvoidprincess who was feeling the chubby Cullen today. So was I, I realized. So….looks like my hand slipped. Woops. 

She was perched on his desk, he removed from most of his armor, arms around her body as they indulged in a few light kisses, mingled with titters and murmurs of endearment. Cullen loved her body, because it belonged to her, but Maker, there was something elegant in the way her waist tapered into wide hips, or the way her shoulders were sloped and gentle, so different from his own. Her legs were long and had a strength to them, carved from the endless running and riding that she did. She was carved from star stuff, strong and voluptuous, yet every part of her womanly, and perfect.

She pressed closer to him, bosom against his chest. She carried her curves in her hips, but the curve of her breasts were still so enticing and lovely. He imagined peeling her shirt away, their bare skins touching, and feeling that softness of her breasts and slightly rounded belly as he laid on top of her, and…

“Cullen…oh maker…ah.” 

She said his name and he was brought back to reality, thoughts ceasing, lest he begin to do something he may regret later. Maker he couldn’t take her here…on his desk of all places. Though her blue eyes would be startling against the brown wood, her body quivering…

He had to pause his ministrations, pressing his forehead to hers and allowing a few moments to breathe, trying to abate his arousal. His breaths were deep, and he was lightheaded, dizzy with her, and lightly, she kissed him gently on the lips. 

“You taste like those butter cakes they make in the kitchens,” she said with a laugh. 

“Mm,” he said. Emmaline, the Skyhold cook had sent him some that afternoon. “I had a few.”

“Have you tried the cherry tarts? They are amazing.” 

“I have,” he said. “They are good.”

“They are indeed. Josephine says not to eat too much though, or else new armor will have to be fitted.” She chuckled, and when she patted his stomach, meaning to tease, he was hit with a sudden wave.

“Are you blushing?” Lydia asked. 

“No,” he lied, even though he was remembering what the seamstress who made his uniform at for the Winter Palace said, condescending eyes far too judgmental. Bit of a tummy dear. Aren’t you a commander? 

Well, I don’t train as much as I used to, he defended. 

Hmmm, she mumbled, sticking him with a pin.

Cullen knew it was ridiculous to feel embarrassed about that, of all things. Superficial even. It wasn’t though he was that large. But even as a templar he had a bit of a stomach, and his abdomen wasn’t really that defined. And he certainly wasn’t getting any younger. He didn’t train as much, and, well, butter cakes and cherry tarts existed.

Lydia must have registered that something was amiss, as her brows furrowed. “Did I…did I do something?” she asked. 

“No, no!” he quickly assured. “I was just thinking.” 

“About what?” 

“Cherry tarts and butter cakes, and the fact that…uh…” 

Her eyes drifted towards his stomach, widening a bit. “Oh!” 

“Maker’s breath Lydia, please don’t stare. I used to train every day, and…” 

“Cullen! I don’t care!” she exclaimed, holding his face in her hands and pressing a kiss to his forehead. “I have a tummy too! In fact as soon as this is over and I won’t get as much exercise I’ll probably expand to be this big!” 

She brought her hands out, laughing, before throwing her arms around her and raining kisses on every part of his face. It wouldn’t ever matter to him how many cherry tarts she ate. She would always be beautiful, because she would always be Lydia.

“People used to make fun of me in the Circle, because I had some extra weight,” she revealed. “But…”

“No. They were wrong. You were beautiful then. Beautiful now. Always.” 

“The same is true for you, Cullen,” she said, and once more, they continued to kiss, laugh, and be together, before sneaking into the kitchen to grab butter cakes and cherry tarts. 

They were sweet. But nothing was sweeter than her lips on his.

also he just turned 30-ish, so there's that. idk about the food thing... personally i imagine that withdrawal doesn't really make you hungry, but when he's not feelin shitty i suppose it doesn't matter. maybe he stress eats, that's be fun.

It’s not only his age but his lifestyle and activity levels changing, too.

As for food, its sort of different for everyone, some people crave lots of sugary things while they’re in withdrawal, some people can’t eat much of anything. It changes based on the person and based on what they’re in withdrawal from. I’m weary about making real-world parallels to a fictional drug, though. Maybe some days he can’t handle eating, maybe somedays he can? One day at a time.

He could very well be stress/comfort eating, too, like you said. With the trauma he’s been through, and his job in DAI, that could be very likely.

Regardless of the reason he’s gained weight, I still love me some chubby Cullen.

At the Winter Palace there’s a little snippet of dialogue that involves Cullen talking about needing to have his jacket let out a little, and that makes sense to me. He’s spending more time behind a desk than training. People’s bodies change as they age and as their activity levels fluctuate. He’s also working at coming off of lyrium, so his metabolism could be in flux.

Chubby Cullen’s got small, white stretch marks on his shoulders and calves from when he had that growth spurt when he was 17. He’s got some newer ones on his hips now that he’s spending more time sitting behind his desk and writing than training. It still feels good to get out onto the training grounds and run through drills. He enjoys the burn in his muscles. It’s a much more familiar and acceptable pain than the headaches and light sensitivity from coming off the lyrium.

He notices his added bulk helps him knock even the most seasoned soldiers back a few steps when he bashes them with his shield.

The food in the Inquisition is hands down the best he’s had since living at home. He still eats like an active soldier even though he hasn’t spent more than a few hours on his feet at any one time during the day. The shortbread cookies that Josie has made for him are delicious.

Cullen yawns and stretches in the mornings, scratching his fingers over his soft stomach covered in curly golden hair.

I love chubby Cullen (and ripped Cassandra, and willowy Viviene, and broad-shouldered and narrow-waisted Sera, and thick Iron Bull, and lanky Cole, and thick-legged Solas, and bulky Blackwall, and Samson with his poochy tum, and Calpernia with her jacked arms and thick ankles).

I’ve seen the idea of calling a character “chubby” or “fat” as a slight (even one who thought it was “abusive” to make a character fat “after everything they’ve been through”), but it’s not when it comes out of my mouth. “Fat” is a descriptor, it’s not a value statement.

I just want more body diversity, and less of an emphasis on modern-day western beauty standards. I’m a fat triathlete. I want to see fat, active people, because someone’s body fat percentage isn’t a complete indicator of their health or worth. I want to see thin people, I want to see top heavy bodies and bottom heavy bodies. I want to see some fucking diversity.

I want Rubenesque Josephine because fat women are smart, capable, and gorgeous. I want stacked Cassandra because strong female bodies with muscle definition are gorgeous. I want chubby Cullen because soft male bodies with fat on them are gorgeous. I want strongman Iron Bull with a thick layer of body fat over his muscles. I want lean and lanky Cole. I want Sera with broad shoulders. I want tums and jiggly bits and triceps and stretch marks and pockmarks and broken blood vessels and nails that are bitten down to the quick.
