Chuck Mangione – Land of Make Believe

Land of Make Believe is the eighth album by jazz trumpeter Chuck Mangione. The title song is sung by Esther Satterfield. It also features Mangione’s older brother Gap Mangione and jazz trumpet player Jon Faddis.

The Allmusic review by Richard S. Ginell awarded the album 4½ stars and stated:” Though much less expansive than Mangione's other Mercury concerts (only 37 minutes on a single CD or LP), Land of Make Believe is the most successful of the lot, a winning combination of attractive tunes, big-thinking orchestrations, just enough jazz content, and a genuinely felt sense of idealism. Here there is no dead weight; all of the material is very engaging and the combined forces of Mangione's quartet and the Hamilton (Ontario) Philharmonic are on fire. … This would be Mangione's most irresistible attempt at embracing the whole world of music …”

A salute to a Shunsaku Tamiya (田宮 俊作, 1934-2025) Shunsaku is the son of Yoshio Tamiya (田宮 義雄, 1905-1988), the founder of the Tamiya Corporation (株式会社タミヤ), which was established in 1946, and it has been making plastic scale models since 1961, with Shunsaku co-managing the company with his father. Yoshio named is son aptly, with 俊 (shun) meaning "talented, capable", and 作 (saku) translates to "make, create". I had been building the Tamiya™ World War II 1:72 and 1:35 scaled "Military Miniatures" (first released in 1970) since 1980, and I have recently gone back to building these scale models in 2022. Postscript: Other decent deaths that were part of my youth are the American jazz musician Charles Frank “Chuck” Mangione (1940-2025), English rock star John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (1948-2025), and the American wrestling legend Hulk Hogan (Terry Gene Bollea, 1953-2025)
