At churches in Tucker, Georgia, we recognize that gathering together in faith strengthens our connection with God and with one another.
Fellowship plays a crucial role in the life of every believer. At churches in Tucker, Georgia, we recognize that gathering together in faith strengthens our connection with God and with one another. Fellowship is more than just meeting up; it is about building a community where believers can share their experiences, support each other, and grow spiritually.
The Kingdom Movement
The Kingdom that Jesus preached was a movement. Wherever Jesus went, things happened when He preached the Kingdom of Heaven. People were healed, they regained their sight, they were made whole again, they were made clean again, and more were drawn to Jesus as a result of these miracles. In the early church, many of the Apostles experienced the same thing as they preached Jesus to ever-larger…

Programs Will Not Fix Our Church
Programs Will Not Fix Our Church
Great Christians get plugged into their church. I generally agree with this principle. I know there is great wisdom in plugging guest and new members into the various ministries of the church. A church that serves together appears to grow together. As church guru and Lifeway President, Thom Rainer said, “If you are not in a group, you are not really committed to your church.”
I agree to a point.…

When an Invitation Becomes a Sale
When an Invitation Becomes a Sale
One thing that I’ve really learned over the past few years is that my relationship with God is a personal one. And I really believe it should be that way for everyone. Your relationship shouldn’t be pinned to what church you go to. I live in the South now, which means that I live in the Bible belt. There are literally churches everywhere. And that’s fine. But every single church here believes…

Church is an Option
Church is an Option
Some of my clients sent this over to me as they were pretty certain I’d enjoy a little stab at church.
One of the elements I like about this is the blatant ‘we will cater to whatever whim you have’ when it comes to programming & worship in the church. Now, providing some services for people is fine, but often times they are provided under the ‘keeping up with the Jones’s’ motivation versus an…

Discovering the Church Program Collection
Having grown up collecting church bulletins throughout my years in youth choir, it was fitting that I would spend a week doing the first big push on describing the HCL Special Collections collection of event and church programs. I have been struck, time and again, by the concern for presentation that these churches have invested in both regular Sunday bulletins and commemorative booklets celebrating milestones for the church.
There are quite a few programs from First Congregational Church, and a good portion of them for anniversary events. Some programs date back to 1883! But one that caught by eye particularly was the Souvenir Program for their Fiftieth Anniversary.
The church, as a body of people, predates Minnesota’s existence as a state and this booklet offers a glimpse into the history of its establishing members.
Photos like these are throughout the booklet and while they are not all in the best shape, the paper has held up remarkably well. Sadly, like many other ephemeratic memorabilia, it is beginning to fall apart as a result of the lack of permanence of the glue and the strain caused by old staples. But, for all that, they are still delightful surprises to uncover amidst more standard Sunday bulletins.
This post was written by Special Collections intern Melissa Lowe. In March, Melissa created metadata for hundreds of church programs, noting performers, location, format, and other relevant information. The early programs will eventually be digitized and available to search and browse online.
