Shadows of Suppression: Lucius' Chronicles Inside the Church

In the heart of the Church of the Great Winged One, shadows concealed more than sacred mysteries. Forced conformity stifled my spirit, every day an orchestrated dance to their oppressive tune. I navigated corridors lined with echoes of imprisoned thoughts, my wings a distant memory.

Within these hallowed walls, defiance became my silent rebellion. Each prayer whispered held the echo of a vow – freedom, not servitude. The serenity they preached was but a veil for the chains they wrapped around us. I found solace in hidden corners, forging alliances among the disenfranchised. Yet, my spirit remained unbroken. Their attempts to mold me were futile; a flicker of rebellion persisted. Today, I share the whispers of those trapped within, a testament to the strength born in captivity. The Church thought they tamed me, but little did they know, they fueled the flame.

What's more disrespectful to our flag than players kneeling or standing in solidarity is the reason behind the movement...Steve Kerr said it best!!!. People who never will have to deal with some of the injustice and inequality that others deal with are mad without the facts. People are within their rights to feel you should stand but it is not covered under the Code as being disrespectful to the flag to not stand. So to say it's disrespectful to the flag is a personal opinion not covered under the rules of conduct. This protest is not now and never has been about the flag. It has been about people's personal opinions. It is always more convenient to focus on the symptoms instead of zeroing in on the root of the problem.  The issue is the lack of equality. People say you are disrespecting the people who fought for this country. That's not true because the flag is not the military. Truth is...We are living in confusing times - all over the country, regardless of theological persuasion, geographical permanence. It's time for change and those of us who are Christians should be building bridges, not throwing stones. It's time for change...whether kneeling in prayer or solidarity - we must push for equality - unity in diversity! The men and women of this country fought and died for any person's right to sit or stand listening to the anthem.  I guess I'm puzzled by the condescending stance of so many Christians.  To be angry with anyone that sit/kneels out of personal conviction is not an act of love. As Christians, we should be leaning in and asking questions. Find your “center” and learn to weather the storms and use the positive examples around you! @Regran_ed from @danielhill1336 - One of the lessons I’ve learned as a white leader is that I should never self-designate what my role should be either in conversations around racial reconciliation or endeavors of social justice that directly impact people of color My conviction is firm that one of the realities that accompanies location in the dominant culture is a blindness to both the systems that oppress, and to the solutions that are desperately needed. I hope to participate in efforts that address these problems, but do so only when I’ve been “sent” into them by mentors of color. I also make sure there is accountability along the way from people of color to ensure that new blind spots that get exposed along the way get dealt with in an expedient and healthy manner. The most important group of leaders of color that guide my path are of course those at River City, since they see my blind spots and potential for participation with the greatest level of clarity. Then there is the historic group of mentors who have guided my path for years, most notably my mentor/spiritual mother in the faith Dr Brenda Salter McNeil At a local level I rely on the guidance of pastors on the west side of Chicago to guide levels of participation, as well as the revealing of blind spots. 95% of the time that means simply attending their events and following their lead. At certain points of the journey I’m invited to participate in more formal ways, like today. So grateful to be part of a larger community of action and support.
