Sadly, we’ve chosen to settle for spreading around our political opinions, allowing ourselves to be filled with pride after our preaching to the choir garners praise from those who already agree with us. We’ve settled for the sickness and self-righteousness of moralistic therapeutic deism rather than the life-changing and eternally powerful message of the Gospel. We’ve settled for religiosity, which frankly doesn’t attract anyone to Jesus. Instead, our moralism repels potential believers while we high-five our fellow Christians for sticking it to the man.

k so i've been a staunch atheist most of my life resulting in me p.much rushing through all the BS-y church stuff my parents made me go through. I haven't been to church since i was confirmed in 8th grade. I am now a senior in college and my church sends not one, but TWO care packages that look like they've been kicked around the postal service for about a decade. I recognize none of the names on the cards and this twix expired in 2014.
I'm gonna eat it anyway.
Yes, I am a Christian. That doesn't mean I'll be showing up on your front porch Waving a Bible in your face screaming "Have you heard? Heard the Good News?" Yes, I am a Christian. That doesn't mean I'll condemn you to hell for drinking that glass of wine, Telling you to treat your body like a temple and keep it pure Jesus Christ drank wine, didn't he? Yes, I am a Christian. That doesn't mean I'll be picketing your home, your work, your friends Just because your beliefs don't agree with mine. That's a little childish, right? Yes, I am a Christian. That doesn't mean that I devote my Sundays to God, turn off the phone, TV and light and read my Scriptures by daylight. I'm a college student. We call Sunday the "day of catching up." Yes, I am a Christian. That doesn't mean that I will spit on you because you deign to walk down the street arm-in-arm or hand-in-hand with a member of the same sex. God created us all equal, didn't He? Yes, I am a Christian. That doesn't mean that I can't accept you just how you are. One of the first lessons we learn in Church is love for each other and ourselves. Christ died on the cross for us. Can't we love our neighbor? Yes, I am a Christian. I'm not perfect, better than you or first in line to get to Heaven (To tell you the truth I'm more like 4,476,658,578th or so). But I love you like a friend, I believe you have merit no matter what you believe. Yes, I am a Christian. I might fall, lose faith and curse the Heavens whenever things don't go my way. I'm in no way a perfect person, but I know that I am blessed. Because, despite all my imperfections, I am loved by a perfect God.

I just feel I should let you all know that a couple of years ago, we used this in an actual Church service.
Well half of it because we only showed it to show everyone else the second hand embarrassment we can find on youtube when trying to find relevant videos
So I know most of you aren't very religious, and that's completely fine, believe me, but I just wanted to share that my church is taking steps to become an official reconciling congregation (openly accepting of all gender and sexual identities, in other words) and they're sending me (and some other women) to a small conference in the LA area later this month to learn more about the process, and I'm just really proud of my church for taking this step.
(Also, just out of curiosity, even if you're not the churchgoing type, what would make you look at a church and say, "It's cool that my friend goes here!" Or, "I'm not religious, but if I were, I would look for a place like this"?)
We only have one job: to love others. And until we do this, the church has no right to condemn GLBT people. Because that’s not love, and we cannot neglect people within the first two seconds of them walking through the church doors.
