I'm reading Hungerstone by Kat Dunn!! I'm reading it along with a book club and it's been really fun! (We read a couple chapters a week then discuss, it's been great to have these in depth discusses and the wait is delicious torture.)

It's reworking of Carmilla, the novella that inspired Dracula. It, like its mother work, is sapphic and it's so good. It's an amazing gothic horror piece, the prose is truly so so good. I keep underlining things, I just can't help myself.

"The weather teases summer in bouts of bold sunshine and heat that sours the milk before it arrives from the dairy, then retreats in a flurry of gray skies and a heavy humidity that lies across the city like a fog."

I wanted to grab something, so I pulled this from the third page, I just had to give some example of her writing.

I'm also reading Fruiting Bodies! It's a book of short stories by Kathryn Harlan. I've only recently begun it, but I have been thoroughly enjoying Algal Bloom, the first story of the book. I got it as inspiration for a short story I'm writing, and the writing is so good I do truly feel as though I am learning.
