i think i'm having mental issues...
wanna see isopods? i like you
isopods are so cool,,,, im the same but with cicadas, wanna hear cicada facts? there are many many cicada species (more than 3.000) but a lot are undescribed :( i think thats because people normally refer to them as two types, annual and periodical, periodical cicadas are the ones ppl are more interested in because they spend more than 10 years being nymphs underground until they emerge to the surface to become actual cicadas, and also I think that's why they are or were a symbol of rebirth in China, and I have a few more thoughts about it
one of them is that the cicadas' defense method in nature is.. dying. yes, dying. LET ME EXPLAIN: when cicadas emerge to the surface, they emerge in veery long groups, right? that's because they only have like 3 weeks to live when they are actual cicadas, and they mate in that period of time (A curious fact is that they use that buzz sound of their wings to attract each other, both when there is a predator nearby or when they are looking for someone to mate with, and only the males can make this sound with their tail and wings, it's like snapping your fingers.) and they also die in long groups, close to trees, but to the point, THEY DIE TO LET OTHERS LIVE and that's because predators hungry blah blah and they want to eat them. they let them eat them, predators are satisfied but there are still too many cicadas, predators don't eat them because they don't need it, CICADAS LIVE!!!! or at least the rest of em
i made a cicada poem like a year and half ago and yeah they are my favorite insect (as if my name isn't literally cicada but with aesthetic numbers with no meaning)
and psst.. there were also giant cicadas in Palaeontinidae... I need to research more about them because it sounds very cool
