RYUUJIN’S DAIGO, otherwise known as the man who waited 1,000 years to marry the dragon god of the sea ( @cicatrise ). After countless reincarnations ― all aimed to find and love the still - human Ryu trapped among mortals ― Daigo’s soul was finally given the chance to rest. With Ryu’s curse broken, the dragon was granted the opportunity to take his lover’s soul from the afterlife and bring it to his kingdom. Daigo became the Prince Consort of Ryu’s land and ( more importantly ) his husband.
Daigo’s ship with Ryu results in a very unique design for Daigo when they are allowed their epilogue ( or, really, second beginning ), so I wanted to have a reference of that version of him !

Olivine is making his daily errands throughout the water territory, the usual crowds following him as they always do. He wishes that he could do something about everything Ryuujin pointed out to him, but it became very apparent very quickly that there’s nowhere else for him. So, he rationalizes that even if he’s being exploited, at least some good is coming out of it. If people are being housed and fed because the masses look upon him so lustfully, well, it makes it a bit easier to stomach. And at least he’s been permitted to wear his more prudent outfits.
Things with Eiden, though...
The priest lets out a soft sigh as he feels his essence begin to act up once more, but he quickly buries it until he can take care of himself later.
So he continues his errands silently, enjoying the simple tasks at hand knowing that they’ll benefit a lot of people. And as he walks he notices a familiar man with a cane.
A smile overwhelms his features and he almost skips in the direction of the man who opened his eyes with an excited, “Ryuujin!”

The first time. Daigo smiled and extended his hand. He had left Ryu sitting on a moist paper towel for a few minutes while he finished putting away the dishes. It was safer for the gecko than staying with Daigo ; after all, some of the cooking pots were heavy and could potentially injure him.
“Do you want to go bask?” Daigo asked softly. At no reaction from the gecko, the ex - yakuza pressed on. “ ― or are you staying with me?” That seemed to be the winning question. Ryu opened his mouth, showing the moist tissue inside with a sense of triumph, and then climbed onto Daigo’s palm. He settled into it, following the already well - known shape of that coarse skin, and turned his head up to look at Daigo.
Light stomps from one of the gecko’s little feet made Daigo chuckle. The side of his hand moved to rest against his broad chest, securing Ryu for travel while the former Chairman finished his tasks around the apartment.
“I know,” he acknowledged. “I should have known.”
The second time. The ex - yakuza was asleep. He laid on his side, curled into Ryu, with an arm slung across the deity’s middle. Every so often, Daigo would shift. The reason was the same that drove this behavior every night they were together : he always ended up trying to be as entwined with Ryu as he possibly could. Fingers curled briefly into the fabric of the shirt Ryu laid awake in. Daigo muttered his lover’s name into the material, hinting at the idea of the former Chairman dreaming of the captured god, and Ryu smiled in the gloom.
The third time. Daigo gazed up at Ryuujin with the same awed air he had possessed for the last several decades. His knotted fingers released the cane he relied on to reach for the great dragon’s head, but he couldn’t quite close the distance. Daigo’s famous strength was long gone from him, sapped away until he became the brittle bag of skin - and - bones his lover cared for ; as he sagged toward the ground, massive claws swept under his thin form to prevent him from falling. The former Chairman fell into them gratefully. Ryu’s snout nestled in next to Daigo’s body, huffing lightly.
Daigo smiled pleasantly and leaned his head in to press his lips to Ryu’s scales. His voice was faint. “You are still the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,” the ex - yakuza said hoarsely.
Daigo’s hands were shaking. His white hair, pulled up by Ryu before they left, spilled out around his head. He gazed at the dragon that held him adoringly ― and finally he let go. One heart stopped ; the other broke.
The fourth time. It was used to this. Nothingness. The space between lives, the time to itself before it went back. Daigo’s soul was warm ; it radiated a contented heat as it sat, thinking about the reason it was nearly a millennium old now. A new being came to lift it carefully, mindful of how delicate it was. Suddenly, Daigo’s soul flared up in protest. It was mottled in color on the surface ( a mix of vivid oranges and blacks ) and heavy from all of the lives it carried within it. The soul chattered frantically, speaking the same name it always uttered.
Something, however, soothed the aching soul back to darkness. It remained that way until it was settled elsewhere. Daigo’s soul slowly re - awoke. Gradually, it became aware of its confines ― it was in a vessel, but this wasn’t the fragile mortal frame it was used to. This was merely human - shaped. Daigo’s soul opened its eyes, and it realized the most important piece of its new identity. IT WAS DAIGO DOJIMA. That hadn’t been stripped away.
Daigo’s brows came together. His body felt sluggish as he forced it to sit. Lengthy black locks fell over his shoulders. He was in a bed, partially clothed in soft trousers with the pendant around his neck, and there was another individual seated next to him. Daigo didn’t dare believe it at first, but he reached for Ryuujin instinctively. His fingers bumped into a barrier that seemed like flesh. As the realization washed over him, Daigo’s features contorted. He buried his head in Ryu’s chest and started to sob out one thousand years of longing. Daigo gripped Ryu tightly, afraid to let go.
“I love you,” he choked out repeatedly.
The fifth time. Daigo loved to watch him. Ryuujin was mesmerizing to follow through the depths of his natural home ; he flowed through the water with ease, slender body coiling around itself playfully as he went. Daigo uncrossed his legs and rose to his feet. It continued to surprise him ― how easy that motion was. He was so used to the everyday physical pains of being human. To live without that in a body that mimicked his soul’s strongest identity was a new normal he might never fully adjust to.
Daigo brushed down the front of his robes ( silky black garments with red and orange accents ). As he did, he became aware of a shadow closing in fast overhead. A low rumble and the muffled sound of rushing water warned him that he had a visitor. Daigo raised his face in time to see a dragon’s head close the last of the distance between them. He laughed, loud and amused, at the feeling of Ryu’s nose bumping into his body. It nearly took Daigo off of his feet, but he was able to plant his heels in time.
Pleased huffing and glittering eyes told Daigo all he needed to know. He bowed his head to kiss his lover’s scales and scratched the less firm material by Ryu’s nostrils.
“You are still the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,” Daigo murmured.
Daigo’s hands clung to Ryu’s snout with the strength of his youth. His raven - hued hair, pulled half - back by Ryu this morning before they left, moved across his shoulders as he brushed his lips over another scale. Daigo gazed at Ryu adoringly. It was only when the dragon made a motion to break away that Daigo finally let go.
