We’re so Sorry You Grew Up Without Us
Mariam is an only child, losing her mother when she was just a year old. She was raised by her father and grandfather with knowledge of her mother’s death. She was raised in the castle and wasn’t allowed to leave unless her father and a royal guard accompanied her. Her father lived in fear of her being killed just like her mother and grandmother had been. Her only friend has been Daphne, the next in line to inherit the Dragon’s Flame. It had also been Daphne who convinced her father to allow Mariam to attend Alfea, something he had been very adamant about not letting her do. There, she had finally pursued magic and gained the title of Fairy of the Coastal Winds. Her first year was difficult for her with her father pulling her out every few weeks, fearing that something may happen with every little piece of news about Eraklyon and upon hearing that the sons and daughters of Eraklyon nobility were attending the schools. She knows her mother and grandmother were killed by an Eraklyon noble, but never truly understood her father’s constant worrying. She thought things had been resolved as they no longer had her grandmother’s Mythix wand. Though the fear her father had about her had finally settled in after having Bloom, realizing that if his suspicions were right she’d soon face the same fate.
Amais is the youngest of three, though his older brothers are the sons of his mother’s first husband. Both of his brothers had a tough time accepting him, seeing him as their replacement much like how they thought she replaced their father. Oritel, the second oldest, was quick to resolve their differences, not seeing any real reason to be against him. Though Favian, the oldest, still holds the grudge. While the original intent was for Oritel to marry Mariam, their parents decided to have Mariam and Amais to be betrothed instead. Neither Mariam or Oritel were in love and were very tense around each other, but Amais and her had gotten along well. Both were attending Red Fountain and Alfea at the same time and had bonded on multiple occasions during those years. Amais was more than willing to take Oritel’s place, loving Mariam and wanting to please his family. When Mariam started fearing for her safety and Bloom’s, he swore to protect the both of them and that he’d make sure that she stays safe.
