“I don’t want to build a game. I want to build a universe.”
[dropcap size=small]G[/dropcap]ame designer Chris Roberts, the masterful genius behind Wing Commander and Freelancer comes his latest game, STAR CITIZEN. This PC space game is a 100% crowd funded project, and was able to reach new heights the other day as it surpassed $113 million in total funding, while having reached $100 million this past December, and they only seem to continue to gain traction and grow for this game. According to their official website, more than 1.3 million people have signed up to track the progress of the game on their Kickstarter page.
This milestone makes Star Citizen the most successful crowdfunded project ever, on a dollar basis. A representative for the game company, Cloud Imperium Games Corporation, had this to say about it:
“In our four studios around the world and our partner studios in Canada and elsewhere, people work tirelessly to fulfill the promise of this unprecedented project. Whether they’re artists, programmers, designers, engineers, writers, directors, producers, and more, they’re all gamers who want to share this experience with everyone reading these each and every month“.
“As the teams in each studio continue to expand, you’ll see our pace of production continue to pick up as it already has since late 2015. The knowledge and experience we gain with each new ship built, each new character brought to life, each new landing zone realized, and each new game system coming online will inform the next one after that, meaning that not only will the quantity of our output increase, so will the quality continue to improve“.
Be sure to check out their Kickstarter page and support them for this titan of a game!

The CIGC Staff Remembers the Men and Women Who Fought for Our Freedom
This Memorial Day, Dr. Paul J MacKoul, MD and Dr. Natalya Danilyants, MD, along with the entire staff at The Center for Innovative GYN Care (CIGC) want to take a moment and acknowledge to hard work, dedication and sacrifice of the men and women who have fought in the American Armed Forces.
It is through their bravery and admirable patriotism that we at home can continue to live and serve in the land of the free. This is especially poignant for Dr. Natalya Danilyants, MD, as a naturalized citizen. Though she has been a U.S. citizen for almost three decades, she doesn’t take the wonderful life that she’s built here for granted, nor the freedoms that she and her children enjoy.
It is with great pride that we have treated several members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and National Guard. We are grateful for them, and happy for the opportunity to serve them, in return. We also understand that the time off afforded to those serving in the Armed Forces is extremely limited. Often our procedures are chosen because we can usually schedule very quickly and offer recovery times as short as 1-2 weeks. This can be essential for someone on leave.
If you know a soldier who is suffering from a GYN condition, but will only be on leave for a short period of time, please let them know they can book a consultation here, so we can help them feel better sooner and recover quickly.
So this Memorial Day, Dr. Paul J. MacKoul, MD and the entire staff at The Center for Innovative GYN Care ask that you please take a moment to thank a serviceman or woman in your life and keep those who have died in the line of duty, in your thoughts.
Thank you!
How to Evaluate Your OB/GYN’s Surgical Skills: An Industry Perspective by Dr. Paul J. MacKoul, MD
Your OBGYN is a highly trained doctor in obstetrics and general gynecological health; however they are not always experienced surgeons. It is important that women learn about their doctor’s surgical skills prior to choosing a surgeon to operate on their GYN condition.
Dr. Paul J MacKoul, MD and Dr. Natalya Danilyants, MD, the surgical specialists at The Center for Innovative GYN Care (CIGC) have offered a few key questions that women should ask their OB/GYN or any surgical specialist in order to find out if that person is the best choice for their surgery.
Does your surgeon have extensive experience?
The first question you should ask any professional, is how experienced they are in their job. The same is true with surgeons. How often a specialists performs a surgery is a mark of their experience. Whereas, the average OB/GYN performs 27 surgeries a year, the surgeons at CIGC perform an average of 400 surgeries a year.
Is your surgeon using a robot to perform your surgery?
The American Congress of OB/GYN (ACOG) issued a statement to OB/GYNs that they should use other methods of GYN surgery, such as laparoscopic instead of robotics. The specialists use a minimally invasive laparoscopic technique called DualPortGYN for their surgeries, as it is a proven technique that uses just two tiny incisions, has a fast recovery period and is less painful for the patient. It has also been proven as more effective than robotic surgery. Often generalists who do not have a lot of surgical experience choose to rely on robotic surgery.
Is your surgeon highly experienced in surgically managing endometriosis?
There is no cure for endometriosis, however that does not mean that patients do not have a way to manage the condition and live life with a lot less pain. Watch this video, Treating Endometriosis Successfully Takes a Highly Skilled GYN Surgeon, for more information.
Does your surgeon use a power morcellator?
It has been proven that using power morcellators can spread cancer cells in patients that already have existing cancer cells in their pelvis, even though the patient may not yet know they have cancer cells in their system. Dr. Natalya Danilyants, MD and Dr. Paul J. MacKoul, MD do not require power morcellation in any of their procedures, including LAAM and DualPortGYN. They feel that the risks do not outweigh the benefits, a feeling shared by several insurance companies, as some are no longer covering procedures that include power morcellation.
What do his/her past patients say about their surgical experience?
Read Dr. Paul J. MacKoul, MD’s reviews and it is easy to see that his patients have been extremely pleased with their surgeries, recoveries and overall experience. Reviews for the specialists at The Center for Innovative GYN Care can be found on Vitals, Wellness, UCompareHealthCare, and RateMDs.

Patient Spotlight: Brenda Returns to Walking with her Husband after DualPortGYN Surgery
When Brenda heard that she had to have a hysterectomy, like most women, she wondered how this would affect her active lifestyle. She didn’t want to give up too much time from her job, where she prided herself on 18 years of perfect attendance. She didn’t want to stop exercising for too long, and she wanted to continue enjoying long walks with her husband, something she’d been unable to do with her chronic symptoms due to fibroids.
She approached her OB/GYN about having laparoscopic surgery instead of open. The OB/GYN said no and that the size of the fibroid made it impossible to do the surgery minimally invasively. Brenda then got a second opinion and heard the same thing. But Brenda was determined that somewhere there was a skilled GYN surgical specialist that could perform her hysterectomy laparoscopically and with a quick recovery. That’s when she found Dr. Paul J MacKoul, MD and Dr. Natalya Danilyants, MD, the surgical specialists at The Center for Innovative GYN Care (CIGC).
Not only was Dr. Natalya Danilyants confident that she could perform the surgery laparoscopically, she was able to do so with just two tiny incisions, using the DualPortGYN technique. With DualPortGYN, Brenda experienced a short recovery time in just a few days instead of weeks. Soon she was free of pain and able to start walking again with her husband. Not only that, but the specialists at The Center for Innovative GYN Care never require the use of a power morcellator to perform any of their procedures. This was something that Brenda was concerned about, so she was able to receive relief from that anxiety.
She shares her story in this video, A Safer, Faster Hysterectomy with DualPortGYN: Brenda’s Story.
As Brenda said, “You don’t have to be the person that has to get the full incision. There are options out there, so do your research. There are choices.”

Uncover the Facts about Hysterectomies with Dr. Paul J. MacKoul, MD
Dr. Paul J. MacKoul, MD, of The Center for Innovative GYN Care discusses some common myths that many women believe about hysterectomy surgeries, and explains the facts.
Myth #1: My trusted OB/GYN is also the best surgical expert.
Fact: Although general physicians such as OB/GYNs are the best choice for your general GYN care, they are not always trained in minimally invasive surgical techniques. Nor do they have the same surgical experience as a GYN surgical specialist; performing just 27 surgeries a year, as opposed to the 400 annual surgeries performed by Dr. Paul MacKoul, MD and Dr. Natalya Danilyants, MD.
Myth #2: Hysterectomy Procedures are All the Same
Fact: In fact, the main four surgical techniques are actually very different from each other. They are: Open surgery, which uses a 6-12 inch incision on the bikini line and requires 4-6 weeks of recovery. Robotic surgery, which uses 5 sizeable incisions and is performed somewhat blindly by a doctor monitoring robotic “arms” from a computer console. Conventional laparoscopic surgery, which uses 3-4 incisions and takes two hours to complete. Then lastly DualPortGYN, which uses just two tiny 5 mm incisions and has an average recovery time of just one week.
Other myths and facts can be found on the new patient-focused CIGC website, in the blogs section.
Dr. Paul J. MacKoul, MD and the specialists at The Center for Innovative GYN Care, are leaders in minimally invasive GYN surgery and utilize DualPortGYN for thousands of hysterectomies.
