She sat in her car, parked outside his place for several minutes, her hands clenching the steering wheel tightly enough to turn her knuckles white. They hadn’t spoken much since their chat on New Years and she really had no idea what to expect going in, but then she hadn’t expected any of this, so maybe the butterflies in her stomach were justified. It was just lunch though, of all things, so she figured she should keep it casual (hence the jeans and sneakers).

Taking a few deep breaths to gather herself, she climbed out of the car and made her way up the walk to his front door, her reflexive response to reach for the door handle and let herself in, but thankfully she catches herself. Knocking lightly and then stepping back to wait for him to answer. cigsandbourbon

Some Like It Hot || Colin & Amber

She pulled her think blonde hair into a high pony, keeping it off the back of her neck, and contemplated a change of clothes (or at least putting on a bra) but even the short jeans shorts and tank top seemed like too much in the weather and so she opted to throw a bikini in her oversized purse instead. She stops in the kitchen on her way to the door, making sure Pistol has plenty of food and water at his disposal before finally making her way out to her Mustang.

She loves classic cars, classic muscle cars particularly, but the one drawback of driving such vehicles is the lack of modern amenities like air conditioned and by the time she pulls up at his place the back of her thighs are sticking to the leather seats and she can feel a few errant beads of sweat tricking down the  back of her neck. She grabs her purse with one hand and pushes the door open with the other, the air outside the car no cooler than inside. She was eager enough to see him, the heatwave resulting in a cancelled meeting with a director looking to cast her, but the knowledge that he had air-conditioning, made her step a little quicker. She knocked once at the door and waited a beat before trying the door handle, pushing the door open and sticking her head inside "Hello" she sung out, stepping inside "Delivery for a Mr. Colin Farrell..." cigsandbourbon

Not Broken, Just Bent || Colin & Amber

She wasn’t looking forward to this at all – each time she’d seen him since they split she hoped it’d get better and each time things only seemed to get worse. She accepted her part in it – she had a temper, especially when she was hurt, and his wasn’t much better (though why he was angry still bewildered her). It had been a nearly a week since their last encounter though and he felt further away then he ever had. Even before all this, she couldn’t have been certain they could ever get back to where they were and now it seemed impossible but she did care about him, probably always would, and she’d hoped they could at least find away to be civil to each other. Given how things had gone the last couple run-ins however, that was seeming less and less likely and she’d resorted to old methods of coping, namely – shutting down. His stepping in to protect her at the party had been sweet but if she thought about it too much, she only would have stayed stuck, so she blocked it out and concluded that if she was ever going to get over it all, she needed to get rid of all his things lying around that only served as a constant reminder of him and everything that had happened. So she’d packed it all up and sent him a text to come and get it and now she stood at her kitchen counter, sipping a a glass of Jack on the rocks – thankfully she was pretty emotionally drained from it all and likely didn’t have another fight left in her so they might actually make it through this one.

She stared down at the box on the counter in front of her – it was mostly filled with CD’s and movies, a toothbrush and those damn headband things only he could manage to make look sexy. On top though was an old tattered Jack Daniel’s t-shirt that she’d ‘borrowed’ but always refused to give back. She loved it – not just cause it was her drink of choice but because it still smelled like him and on the nights when their jobs had them on different sides of the globe, it’d helped her sleep. She debated on whether or not to return it – it was the one thing she didn’t want to part with but keeping it seemed to defeat the purpose of what she was trying to accomplish. She’d finally relented and thrown it in the box but when she hears the doorbell ring, she impulsively grabs it with one hand, and her drink in the other, tossing the shirt on to the sofa as she passes on her way to front door. One memento wouldn’t hurt, right? She stops on the other side of the door and finishes off her drink, her other hand resting on the door handle while she takes a breath and puts on her most convincing game face. She finally pulls it open “Hey.” she says softly, managing an awkward half smile as she steps to the side, leaning against the door and waving him in with the empty glass “It’s on the kitchen counter.” she adds, watching an excited Pistol bark and dance around at his feet. Clearly she wasn’t the only one who’d missed him but the poor thing had no idea what was going on…
