The Ballad of the Ash King

Their deaths were his alone to bear, 

He burnt them all away, 

His penance for the deaths to share, 

For at his side she'd stay,

And in his bed she'd lay, 

Under the beat of the merciless sun, 

No price she wouldn't pay, 

For their souls were bound as one, 

A deep and timeless love affair, 

His light among the grey,

With skin of ash and silver hair, 

She'd dance for him all day, 

While the ghostly musics play,

He'd forget how it had all begun,

As she'd spin his pain away,

His heart in a state of disrepair,

Torn apart by those he did slay,

Her curse, death it could not compare, 

With her people, she couldn't stay,

So she went on her way,

In fear it was her they did shun, 

But it was for him that she did pray,

On The King of Ashen Grey,

Were of the woman he would share, 

Every moment of every day,

Forever without delay,

Across the fire scorched floor they spun,

The pain their feet kept at bay,

The immortal king of an ashen land And a love with blood of fire She lays upon him an ashen hand And eyes filled with desire

For a land of green and cool streams Of life and love and birth For the soft of grass and warm sunbeams And a child's laugh of mirth

An eternal man and his cinder queen Rule the ghosts of a life gone by And the sun beats down like gold citrine From a hardened sapphire sky

A love forever until the end Of souls entwined and lives condemned
