I hope I can explain my problem clearly... so I love using DOF but I don't know much at all about reshades. I am using CinematicDOF and I love it but the problem is that even when I focus on a sim, sometimes parts of that sim are out of focus. For example, if I focus on his face, sometimes the body, or even just a shoulder are out of focus. What I would like you to help me with is to know what settings I have to tweak (if anything) to stop that from happening. Thank you! :)
To control how much is in or out of focus when using the Cinematic DoF shader you need to edit the focal length and aperture settings. They both control how deep or shallow the focal plane is. In other words, the slice of the scene that is in focus.
They both work in a similar way, and will make that slice of focus either bigger or smaller depending on what you change them to.
I always start with the focal plane at 10 and aperture at 2.0. That's a relatively narrow slice of focus, but usually good enough for portraits or other subject-focused shots. But of course that will depend on the overall scene, so you'll have to play around with it, and you may want to change it regularly depending on the shot.
Another thing to keep in mind is that there is blur in the foreground and in the background. Most people tend to only want it in the background. You can get rid of the foreground blur by editing the Near Plane Max Blur setting to 0. Cinematic DoF does near blur/foreground blur far better (in my opinion) than any of the other ReShade DoFs available, so if you do ever find yourself wanting to use it you can just change that number back again (the official range is from 0-4 but you can type in whatever you want).
