I love watching sports, and I love playing sports. I only wish I could be really good at it, too. I’d love the title of “best girl athlete”, but I’m pretty sure I’ll never be bestowed that honor in this lifetime. I don’t know how great of an athlete Kate Buchan is, but this gifted singer songwriter from Scotland who releases music under the name Best Girl Athlete is definitely a phenomenal musician. She recently announced a self titled sophomore album to follow on her 2015 debut, Carve Every Word, and it features this intrepid marching, vigorous stomping fusion of folktronica, indie rock, and pop named In Your Head. It’s uptempo and plucky, yet cinematic and dark. There’s no escaping from its brassy resolute grasp. Best Girl Athlete’s eponymous self titled album will be out on October 2nd via Fitlike Records.

Yellow Red Sparks - Buy Me Honey

This album has been near the top of my Rdio Heavy Rotation feed but I hadn't listened to it. Then yesterday I noticed Fred was listening to it (thanks to Rdio's "Friends Online") and I thought I'd give it a spin.

Wonderful, solid album. Reminds me of Whiskeytown in a bunch of places.
