Things like: is this part of an existing universe, a new universe, or undetermined yet? How did the band of morons find/get Jemma? They aren’t SHIELD, I don’t think, because of all the beating up, but who are they? Why DID they do all the beating up - because they just like beating up, were trying to get something out of Jemma, were trying to get something from Ward, or just thought they had something else altogether and are going to regret is very much? If they are a band of morons, how did they manage three whole days with Jemma in captivity? Besides the morons, is anyone else going to pay for that? How bad are Jemma’s injuries? Is there someone standing by to medic her? And if she is so badly hurt, how is Ward going to be able to properly welcome her home with awesome sexing? Anyway, I love, love, love it. This guy is gonna regret ALL of his life choices. I love that turn though. At first it seems like a canon Jemma in a standard kidnapping situation, but then she delivers that very callous line and it could be because she's just really pissed but then nope. She's evil. And going to enjoy torturing/watching this guy be tortured. And Grant will be there too. Because he's not missing that and because he's not letting her out of his sight for a WHILE. They're so CUTE here even while they're evil. <3

There is a possibility this fits into one of my other verses, but I’m undecided on how I want that to go, so let’s call this a standalone for now. The band of morons are so dubbed because of their actions, not their level of intelligence; they’re actually very clever, as evidenced by the success of their kidnapping plot, in which Jemma’s guards were killed and she was abducted before any back-up could show. She would be impressed by how smoothly the whole operation happened, except then they started hurting her, and obviously they’re complete morons because somehow they seem not to know what a colossal mistake that is? Like, come on, guys. You’re gonna be slaughtered.
Mostly they just like hurting people, although there’s a side of them really not liking Grant, there. They’re an off-shoot of HYDRA; they tried to build it up to its former glory after the collapse and totally failed, so they resent Grant’s success.
And again, they are sadly not actually all that stupid, so they managed to hide her very well. Definitely a few of the people on the search were killed with great prejudice when they failed to get immediate results, but luckily for the random grunts in HYDRA, Grant’s fury is gonna be pretty squarely concentrated on his brand new prisoners--most especially the one who literally has Jemma’s blood on his hands when he’s captured.
Jemma’s injuries are fairly severe; cuts and bruises and a few broken bones, as well as dehydration, blood loss, etc. She’s not had a fun few days. And there is indeed a (very nervous) medic standing by to treat her, just as soon as she’s safely away from the morons’ hide-out.
Sadly, thanks to Jemma’s injuries, the reunion sex is delayed for several weeks. But that’s okay! There is lots of cuddling in the meantime and Grant is very dedicated in nursing her back to health. And cheering her up with interesting science and also footage of the people who hurt her being severely tortured.

Now for some questions to demonstrate my love and adoration for you and your writing! Is he an ex-teammate who wanted to be more in this universe, or an ex-boyfriend, or ex-huband? (Not that psycho!Grant acknowledges the EX part, I assume, either way)? Is this his first run-in with Jemma since he escape the vault, or have there been a few more in-person encounters where he’s tried to get her to forgive him (in terrible ways, I assume, for example, not actually apologizing or expressing any remorse whatsoever)? What did he say to her that prompter Hunter’s “don’t talk to her like that!” or is it more of a tone thing, like “don’t talk to her like you have any right to breathe in her presence, you evil Hydra Nazi of awful!“ Does he take Jemma to his Hydrabase for more interrodates in this universe? Is a rescue imminent, or is this moving into a "what is more of a threat to Jemma, her ex-whatever and his psychotic!dangerousing!, or her pesky, won’t-go- away-dammit! feelings for said ex-whatever psychonut of unfair goodlookingness? And can I look forward to maybe the biospecialist muse staying out to play a little longer???

Grant, in this verse, is Jemma’s ex-boyfriend---who, naturally, does not acknowledge the ex part of that. This is their first encounter since his escape, mostly because the team knows he’s an obsessed psychopath and has been super protective of Jemma, so he hasn’t been able to reach her before this. Today, however, there were like six simultaneous emergencies and the team was forced to split up, leaving Jemma to go into the field with no one but Hunter to protect her.
(Grant may or may not be responsible for at least three of those emergencies.)
Hunter’s “don’t talk to her like that” was prompted by a combination of the creepily loving/possessive tone Grant took in greeting Jemma and the sort of condescendingly amused way he reacted to her attempt to get away from him. He was all “We both know you can’t run from me, so why don’t you just come along like a good girl?” Hunter was not amused.
Grant isn’t head of HYDRA in this verse, just one of HYDRA’s specialists, and he knows if he takes Jemma to HYDRA the first stop is torture and the second is brainwashing. So he takes her to a safehouse, instead. Sadly for him, rescue is indeed imminent; they only get about six hours before the team shows up to MURDER him for taking Jemma.
Sadly for the team, they are unsuccessful, and he escapes into the night, never to be seen again.
(”Never” here meaning “not for at least a week while he figures out a better place to hide Jemma the next time he kidnaps her.”)
I don’t know whether or not the biospecialist muse will stick around; its whims are not my own. Fingers crossed, I guess!

One of the biggest difference that stood out to me was Ward calling Jemma his wife whereas Jemma specifically referred to him as her ex-husband (or preferably not to think about that part of their very complicated relationship all together). It’s really fascinating. Also, the way he’s being so manipulative and cunning and possessive in a way that exudes cockiness and overconfidence; it borders on psychotic and yet it’s still insanely hot! Ohhhhhh gosh poor Jemma. She's just so BROKEN, but you can still see some of her steel under it all. She doesn't want to be broken. She wants to be strong like the others would've been. And I think that might be the saddest part because if the others were alive, they would be the first to tell her that is BULLSHIT. A month? A MONTH?! Hell, May probably would’ve broken, or at least made them kill her by that point. But she’s got them on this pedestal and she’s never gonna be good enough. She’ll always compare her concessions to their imaginary strength and that is just so sad. But then Ward! And his sort of ownership of her? The smug way he says he gets her and the way he touches her and coaxes her it’s all just … super creepy but also oh so understandable that Jemma is soothed by it all. He is, as she said in the first installment, the only person left who can make her feel anything, and she’s been feeling nothing but horrible for weeks. Some good is too tempting to pass up. <3 <3 <3
The others would be furious and horrified and would absolutely want her to do whatever she could not to suffer anymore, so that does make it extra sad, yeah. (Although, of course, if the others were alive they would’ve stormed HYDRA and torn it down brick by brick to rescue her, so...) And yeah, poor Jemma is only human. How can she resist? Oh this hurts! This is amazingly written though, I love her internal struggle and how even while not being aware of it she seems to shy away from some thoughts and can’t be aware of others – and the whole hypervigilance thing was just perfect at the start. This universe is super painful, and that pain continues, but I do hope for Jemma that it stops somewhat. (Death might actually be the kinder option, but I know it’s not going to happen. XD) I just love Ward’s creepy care – which is clearly all dependent on HYDRA since he didn’t try to stop her torture at all, but she’s still accepting it and I love it a lot! Also, I feel like you perfectly convey how he doesn’t see any of his actions as being horrible, without actually being in his head! Just super well done, thanks so much for sharing! <4 <4 <3 <3 <3
It gets better from here, at least! She doesn’t hold on to the self-denial for very long; there’ll always be a little bit of guilt, but she ends up just accepting how she feels about him and taking comfort in him without holding herself back, mentally. I love this a lot. How just barely contained he is. How he KNOWS it and that if he gets half a chance he'll kill Greggson even if it loses him Jemma. And that last line! I don't know if you meant it this way but it seems like he's saying the REAL him is too close to the surface. The wolf him. Or the human him. Depending which one is more naturally destructive. I’ve had him state/think previously that the human side is more destructive, but the problem here is that every part of him wants to kill Greggson. (The wolf would make it quick, the human would make it much less quick.) But yes, he’s used to having to keep a veneer of civility on both sides of him, most of the time, and it’s not quite working here. <3
