21) youtube video that is entertaining / relaxing: my kid’s answer to this would be to search for “rainbow cake video.” here’s one that she’s seen twice this week. gotta admit, something pretty calming about watching people decorate cakes. i love the iconic judy/barbra duet, and the time bernadette peters was on sesame street. (that song almost always makes me cry.) one of the most relaxing things ever to me are videos of long train rides or NHK’s “somewhere street” (POV of walking through a city talking to people). ahhh now i want to watch somewhere street!

24) most weird wonderful at-home outfit: days when i switch out black shirt and black yoga pants for striped shirt and green yoga pants 🙃 i am an amorphous blob on a good day, and quarantine days make me more amorphous than ever. my kid has had some truly incredible outfits though. lots of creative layering, experimenting with colors. the other day she wore an orange dress with purple/black cats, black pants with jackolanterns, bright blue sandals, tiny army jacket, and backwards navy blue baseball cap. today she wore a blue gingham dress with bows down the back, purple pants with rainbow flowers, bright red patent leather mary janes, and a pink sweater with a rainbow heart on the front. <3

@circuitbird​ I finally gave in a couple of hours ago. It was a William x Dolores post that was the final straw. Not that I’m against the ship per sé, but the level of mental gymnastics that some people do to argue in favor of this ship, and the delusion that Westworld is a love story, has really struck a nerve with me. It’s one thing to acknowledge the parallels between William and Dolores, or to point out that Dolores is somewhat of a personification of William’s innermost conflict and therefore essential to the development of his character, but it’s something different entirely to claim that William/MiB’s actions have a romantic motive, or that his wife called him “fake” because she realized he was in love with another woman...which was the particular comment I replied to.

Here’s what’s extra gross, I’ve noticed: if you’re chronically ill and employed full time, they applaud you. So they’re more than willing to acknowledge the hardship if you are Suffering in the Name of Capitalism. If you aren’t, that’s when the true nature of your illness gets called into question. Ironic, really. You’re more willing to believe the extent of my pain if I’m gainfully employed DESPITE it all?

You’re so completely right there! It’s a horrible fact that unless you’re employed and working to ‘get better’ (....?!?!?!) it become even harder to get any kind of financial support. What I’m doing right now is better than a few years ago (which didn’t have a ‘no working hours option’, what you had to try to apply for was beyond a fucking farce) but it’s still so much jumping through hoops and having to constantly prove yourself. Being chronically ill means having to run twice as fast and work twice as hard than everyone else and risk your health.

The Ant Man movies were surprisingly delightful.

i did hear when it came out recently that ant man and the wasp WAS very well received, i just never got around to watching them because i was never a big fan of ant man (and also they never seemed particularly relevant to all the big mcu stuff going on, but now i guess that’s going to change........... )

I have somewhere in my possession a great collection of burned CDs from college, trying to bridge the three-hour drive from C-U back to Chicago. My favorite among these was labeled “the beach is burning as the sun goes down”, which I once partially reconstructed on 8tracks, but sadly that’s also gone now. A lot of Smashing Pumpkins circa 2000 (I remember distinctly that it started with Vanity), misc bands from the 2010s Chicago scene, NIN predictably. Per the title, it was meant to start playing as the sun set, with full dark hitting by the time Vision Vision came up. There’s a Blues Brothers clip somewhere in there as well (”It’s 106 miles to Chicago…”)

I’m not a huge TV person - I think my brain is wired a little wrong for most things that play on a screen for >15min, unless I’m watching someone cook. In substitute, the Youtube channels that make my day are:

15. the last tv episode that made you laugh out loud

I watched the pilot of Vampires on Netflix over dinner with my roommate the other week, which was wonderfully bad. I cracked up most at the part where everybody insisted on pouring blood from enormous plastic jugs into their fancy punch dispensers, and only then into fancy little glasses.

29. a favourite easy recipe: 5 ingredients or less, or takes less than 30 min to make

My favorite of these is probably a pretty standard savory oatmeal - whatever sort of broth I have on hand, lots and lots of hot pepper flakes (or chile crisp), a generous amount of spinach, a splash of cream, and a fried egg.
