you go to this circus one night, alone, bc you can’t stand being at home right now and you need something to distract you and take your mind away, even for a night
you manage to sneak out just in time to catch the main show under the big top. the only seat left is way off to the side and just a few rows back, but somehow in the middle of the show, the enrapturing ringleader singles you out for an audience participation segment. he offers an elegant hand out to help you down and over the barrier to the center of the tent. you see the dagger-thrower sharpening his blades. although your blood freezes at the sight, you allow two equally charming and ethereal men, whose voices are so pretty and entrancing that you can’t help but agree to being strapped to a board, to guide you over
maybe it’s the adrenaline high that comes from having knives thrown at you, but you’re grinning and laughing at the end of it, and a different but equally handsome man comes to guide you back to your seat. under your breath, you mutter something about never wanting to leave, and he has a strange smirk across his face as he bows goodbye to you and returns to where his companions are
the show is over, and you’re loitering around, still not wanting to go home yet. your family will kill you when they realize where you’ve gone as they’ve specifically forbid you from going to the circus they claimed was only a bad omen
when you a feel a hand on your shoulder, you jump a little and turn around to see who it is. it’s the ringleader, and he invites you to join the crew for dinner, and you find yourself saying yes for some reason. you’re introduced to them at lightning speed. hongjoong, the ringleader; mingi, the one who threw knives at you; yeosang and san, the ones who convinced you with just a few words to get strapped to that board; seonghwa, the man who walked you back to your seat; jongho, whose tiger was now nuzzling her face into your hand like a giant housecat; wooyoung, whose trapeze show was still replaying in your brain; and yunho, who you swore had filled your glass with ice with just a single glance and hands were freezing when you shook them
and they make you feel at home in a way you’ve never felt at your own home, and you think to yourself that your family is wrong, that the circus and its people aren’t that bad. so when hongjoong offers to not only take your mind away for a night, but to take you, all of you, away for forever, you agree without hesitation
