Music to my ears || Henry and Amber
The wind rustled through the high trees, soft but audible, and combined with the slow sloshing of the waves breaking it provided a steady background track. Kicking around a loose pebble the blonde let out a deep yet contented sigh. It couldn't have been any earlier than eleven but still the beach was as good as deserted.
Originally Amber had planned to wake up at dawn to go running. She'd even set her alarm! But.. when the faithful ring finally reached in and cruelly pulled her out of her sleep.. Well, long story short, boy was she glad the snooze button existed. Even though it did entail she hardly got up at the time she had to (or had decided she had to). It seemed like she could never get enough sleep. Of course she'd only realize that after she'd made herself stay up too late...again.
Anyways, here she was, the sun already blasting down on her at full power, a lone seagull making an unholy amount of noise ( really, it was one freaking bird, how was it even possible?? Nothing should be able to make such a racket ) and a peaceful, almost painfully blue ocean to her left on a presumably early afternoon.
And really, she didn't mind too much, she realized as she kicked the pebble a little too much to the right. Just when the seagull (I should give him a name, the girl mused) let out another loud screech.
Not that I knew anything about the art of naming a gull, she pondered on, abandoning the pebble for a twig she picked up. But really how hard can it be?
The next moment all thoughts of the unreasonably annoying bird left her as she (quite literally) stumbled upon a particularly impressive tree.
This island is actually really really awesome Amber found herself thinking as she took in her surroundings again, her eyes shooting upwards where she caught a small animals shooting through the tree as if it were..well..something shooting through a tree really fast.
Like a squirrel or something.
Oh. It was a squirrel. "Huh, the more you know." The girl half-muttered to herself, smiling a little.
It was then that she started wondering. If the island was awesome from where she was standing, on a windy sandy beach... how awesome would it be from up there?
She'd just have to find out now, didn't she?
So, the girl closed her eyes, relishing the feel of nothingness only amplified by the sounds of the sea, only to feel her mind searching, practically yearning for sight. She didn't open her eyes, though, and instead felt the tingling almost nauseating feeling she was ever so familiar with before she saw.
It was different, obviously, and the colours felt weird and..wrong.. but it was nothing she wasn't used to. In fact, she didn't sway as the animal (perhaps a little spooked by the tingling sensation it too was feeling?) scurried off again, climbing higher and higher. Something she was rather proud of, thank you very much.
And the animal kept climbing and climbing, switching trees as he took her all across the island. She was only using his eyes but that was more than enough as the soaring feeling was already exhilarating. By now she was laughing and squealing out loud, genuinely enjoying the tour, on the floor as she'd fallen after the third tree-hop and hadn't even bothered to get up.
