Cirrus Gallery

So, I went to the Cirrus Gallery, where Tyler Matthew Oyer’s show Release is currently on display. His signature gold and black paintings and sculptures are based off (and includes) song lyrics from his band.

I thought it was really interesting how the artist used his song lyrics in his work and to see it translate into visual art elements. I also thought it was interesting how the text how the lyrics of the songs not only translated into paintings but also into a giant metal sculptural piece. I also enjoyed how the artist the artist and myself share a mutual understanding of how language can interact with art.

It was a bit peculiar however, to see the aesthetic of each work. They had this strange manufacture feel (aka maybe I can buy this at Ikea?). However, as one spends a longer time with each piece, it becomes more apparent that this would not be a typical item that you can/ would manufacture, as some of the text in the paintings involve darker subject matters (which the average citizen would not want hanging in their dining room).
