Refusing help of others: this metaphor can imply he’s stuck in a less mature emotional state but he refuses growth or help

Rejection of analysis: he’s mocking the idea that people can define or “figure him out”

Emotional avoidance/ rejection of vulnerability : he almost acknowledges something internal, but refuses to engage with it

Comedy: it’s intentionally absurd imagery meant to be funny, not a coded identity statement

The “egg” phrasing itself is often internet slang, so it can also read like parody of over-interpretation

Superiority/ control : the “I am a misunderstood fetus” is maybe something he thought Pomni might think or might say/think about him

Joke about fandom interpretation: given how the fandom tends to analyze him: “misunderstood”, “deep hidden meaning”, “inner identity reading” And knowing Jax’s capacities to break the 4th wall —> this can be a parody of over-analysis itself (he’s denying everything)

Jax almost says something meaningful → turns it into absurdity → rejects it : He doesn’t want to be understood or helped…

“Egg” slang interpretation

the word “egg” also exists as a literal object in the metaphor

the phrase is already a common absurd image (“egg that needs cracking open”) in general internet humor and storytelling

Ribbit putting her bow on Jax + Jax blushing

Comfort /grounding gesture: The bow thing can be: a soft interruption of emotional overload / a “you’re safe right now” gesture after his vulnerability / physical grounding after he just disclosed smth traumatic. Jax blushing here can simply reflect: a sudden exposure after emotional confession / embarrassment at being seen as vulnerable / discomfort with receiving gentleness he didn’t control or love, that the first time he see a girl getting nkd for him 😏 (Joking, I’m just joking lol)

Emotional contrast: Ribbit is calm and gentle while Jax is unstable So the bow placement reads like: caretaking energy / soft contrast to his harsh self-image The blush then becomes: unfamiliarity with kindness / emotional dissonance (like Idk how to respond to this)

Social intimacy: embarrassment from vulnerability being acknowledged / sudden closeness after oversharing /intimacy through care, not necessarily romantic (but I ship it 😏) / discomfort with closeness of any kind

Symbolic softening moment: The bow can symbolically: “humanize” or soften his image (he often performs even before Ribbit abstraction) / contrast Jax’s self-perception (bad, dangerous, mean, unworthy) with how others treat him (gentle / accepted) Blushing then reflects: : The « fight » btw how he sees himself vs how he is treated

Admits emotional instability: “I can’t deal with this anymore.” “I feel like I’m breaking.”

Social isolation confession “I don’t think anyone actually likes me.”, “I feel alone all the time.”

His mother can’t mock him in any interpretation, saying things like you’re not a real man, too fragile, sentimental…

Performative masculinity joke: (most direct reading, also very logical knowing how his mother treated him with toxic masculinity): He’s mocking the idea of masculinity as a “performance”/ using absurd traits (ears/tail) as fake “masculinity markers”/ basically doing satire of macho language

The tail inconsistency across episodes can also be:

animation continuity / stylized design change

Recurring joke

To mock his way to see masculinity

To show he doesn’t care abt other, but also abt himself too

or intentional cartoon logic

Maybe Caine noticed bc he was hearing them an discreet make him another one ? (Caine doesn’t act loudly al, the time, like when he fix Gangle mask) (plus it is maybe a bit complicated for Jax to find another tail like that ?)

Maid outfit scene

Humiliation: His reaction fits: being singled out / loss of control over how he is perceived / forced roleplay he didn’t choose So the reaction is: anger + embarrassment at lack of autonomy, not necessarily identity panic

Lack of control :Jax rejecting the maid dress can mean: he doesn’t want a fixed label placed on him/ he resists being categorized/ others are deciding how he look/ His reaction is anger + embarrassment. He hate being publicly controlled or reduced to a joke (he is supposed to be « the funny one » not the one they makes fun of !)

Fear of being mocked / bullied (remember Caine’s torture): His strong reaction fits someone who: hates being laughed at, is sensitive to ridicule, escalates defensively when embarrassed

His defensive personality: across all the show, Jax often mocks others first —> he can dish it out, but hates receiving it

Standard cartoon joke: a character gets forced into an outfit / role (dress, costume…) —> others comment on it —> the character reacts explosively or exaggeratedly (the scene can exist purely as comedy without deeper symbolism)

His « girly » room (+ abstraction eyes)

If we take the idea that rooms reflect insecurities (like Gangle ones have a lot of mask on the wall and is kind of theatrical / Zooble’s room having mirrors…), then the environment may reflect internal psychological themes

Insecurity-based room theory: Jax’s room could suggest: themes about comfort zones, identity performance, or emotional regression BUT this is not a confirmed rule explicitly stated in the show I think

Childlike / soft aesthetic = regression and/or irony: ironic contrast to Jax’s personality/ a innocent and soft space that clashes with his behavior

Maybe just visual humor/design

Color symbolism (general interpretation, not specific identity coding): Pink, purple and pastel tones often get interpreted as: softness, playfulness, “cute” aesthetic, dreamlike, calmness those colours are contrasting with how is Jax’s life…

Okay:

fans visually match color palettes (pink/purple gradients) to a known flag design

then infer intentional coding

BUT in animation design:

pastel pink/purple combinations are extremely common aesthetic choices

similar palettes appear in many unrelated media styles (cute, dreamy, toy-like environments)

Isn’t She Lovely?

Isn't She Lovely" is a song by Stevie Wonder from his 1976 album, Songs in the Key of Life. The lyrics celebrate the birth of his daughter, Aisha Morris.

The song can also be read as reflecting how Jax perceives Pomni’s evolution in the circus, from when she was « born » ➡️ her first time in this world, being named, discovering this world and start slowly adapting

he sees her slowly adapting to the environment

she struggles, but keeps going despite confusion and stress

then she becomes more emotionally resilient

She continues engaging with everyone , even through conflict and friction (including with Jax himself)

Jax has seen how Pomni grew up emotional and personality in the circus….she changes even while struggling through problems and conflicts…. And how , at the end, she stays here for him no matter what…. Even after all he did against her.. He has seen her growing up step by step….

 Stevie Wonder has been blind all his life.

Jax was blind metaphorically, he didn’t see how Pomni was here for him, trying to help and how, he could have survived if he had accepted it.

Everyone was able to help, he was blinded by his aversion to being vulnerable…

What I’m actually doing: -not debating canon - not engaging in harassment - not encouraging moral accusations -respect all viewpoints And I expect basic and normal respect in return as I didn’t show disrespect towards you

I have mixed feels about transfem Jax. While I'm inclined to like the character more as a repressed transgirl (as a trans person!), I still don't actually like the fact that Jax is trans? It just doesn't feel like it suits Jax and gets rid of any character development that was there. I don't like how now it's seen as "Openly hate girly stuff cause people can't know I want to be a girl" , or the transmasc headcanon of "I hate girly stuff because I dont want to be a girl anymore". But also, isn't their character based on their mindfiles? If Jax always felt they were a girl ("I told her something personal to get her off my back") then why wasn't the avatar more feminine? Idk.

But also, having Jax stay as a Cis male leaves the story to be "I hate stereotypically feminine things because I've been taught my whole life that being feminine equals weakness, and weakness is bad. I can't be weak or vulnerable, because then people won't like it respect me."

This take is also reinforced by the way Jax treats Ragatha and Gangle. At present (we don't know much about pre-pomni, or even pre-ribbit abstraction, apart from what Ragatha has said) but Jax treats Ragatha and Gangle as almost lesser because he sees them as "weak" because they display emotions that he doesn't allow himself to display because he sees them as being almost... Beneath him?

When Pomni is casual with him, he likes her. When she gets vulnerable– "what would you do if I abstracted?"– his pupils expand, which a lot of fans have pointed out as him "closing down", and he tells her he wouldn't care.

Again, transfem Jax answers some of these questions (femininity and trauma), but leaves others that really only traumatised, cis Jax would explain (vulnerability, why his avatar is male and why he's still male in the outside world, despite clearly having a support system and frequenting Zooble's queer-run bar.

TADC Episode 9 spoilers!!!

It really annoys me when people get mad and argue about the validity of Daisy, which as I’m sure you know, is what the fandom has named transfem Jax.

The thing is, nothing’s confirmed. It’s all about interpretation. For an example, let’s take this scene from episode 9;

Ribbit takes off her bow and places it on Jax’s/Daisy’s head, to which he/she seems happy. This happens right after Jax/Daisy tells Ribbit about their relationship with their parents.

Now here’s where we run into a problem; Interpretation.

Here’s the Jax route.

Jax is happy because he sees Ribbit still trusts him, and doesn’t think of him as any less of a friend after what he told her. She promises to keep his secret.

Here’s the Daisy route.

Daisy is happy because the bow on her head makes her feel more feminine, validating her identity, which helps further her bond with Ribbit.

How is this a problem? Because there’s no dialogue after this interaction to confirm either side. I personally feel like both are valid, I can understand both sides, but to fight over it and call people transphobic just because they don’t agree? It’s just stupid. The way YOU interpret something doesn’t mean it’s right. Again, I understand both points, I believe that both Jax and Daisy are valid characters, I like drawing both of them, and there’s no reason to fight.

I love Jax, and I love Daisy.
