The fucked up thing about this discussion about Jax being trans or not, at least for me, is that the people defending and saying its good representation are using the "People have no media literacy and need everything spelled out for them-" whenever someone brings up that having to confirm things on twitter/X is an example of the bad writing.
And you know what? Is other cases I could agree. If we were talking about something like a Disney show, or even a netflix one, I could understand why a Twitter post confirming a character sexuality/gender could be great- Lord knows the JJK fandom would make a pride month of their own if it it meant a post from the author confirming Kirara is a trans woman! Because there's reasons why they would not expect this post and why it was so important.
TOH got canceled for being openly queer, movies with blink and miss it moments get hidden and forgotten by the companies if they show any sort of queerness, like the buzzlightear just for example, American examples! In a place like Japan, something like that could have been an end to JJK run.
So yeah. I could understand that way, with a terrible bitter taste but I can swallow it. It's at least understandable why the creator/authors could chose to imply diversity subtly instead of showing it openly. Why a post confirming it would have been so great in that case, why showing instead of telling could be a great representation.
TADC has been loud and proud about being a indie show since the start, when the whole cinemas thing started one of the arguments was about how great it was that a indie show was going so far to the point of being displayed in cinemas, a mark for indie animation!
TADC had openly queer characters (Though abstragedy started halfway mid the show) and the Va's, animators, and the creator herself was openly queer or allies of the LGBT community.
There was nothing keeping Goose from showing a character being openly trans, like her. She was so direct about Jax being just like her in everything else but she couldn't do this for such an important type of representation? A representation for her own community?
She still chose to imply it losely and then confirm it later when people were rightfully lost and confused about it. She could have made anything after the reveal, she could have had Pommi correct the others about Jax pronouns, or maybe use the right ones herself. If she didn't want Pommi making assumptions, she could have showed the real Jax as a trans woman in the end as they watched the real life, heck, even if she wasn't typically feminine, a pin could have done it. A trans flag somewhere.
But no. There was one scene with Ribbit and then it never got mentioned again. Just a post later. Btw how do we know if it was both Circus Jax and the real one? Who knows, we don't- which is crazy considering how much Jax has been forced down on out throats for so long now.
Never made a post about TADC before and probably won't again now with all the racism involving this show, but I wanted to say this because I didn't see anyone mentioning it till now.
