I have an identical twin who is my best friend. Inseparable. We agree on almost everything. She’s a het Swiftie (imo a fan who believes the straight PR narrative) & I’m a reformed het Swiftie turned Gaylor turned Kaylor. When my eyes were opened to Taylor’s queer themes, it changed my entire idea of Taylor, and every song became a new one to me, to replace all of the PR I was fed her entire career. I now laugh at the little things I previously blindly accepted but hadn’t made sense but made sense now. (Silly example—when I was a hetlor I was so confused as to why Taylor said 1989 wasn’t about boys despite the love songs and yet left & right the media pounded us with Harry Styles or Jake or whomever she had been “in love” with as muses & I still didn’t see it! 🤦🏻♀️)
As I’ve said before, just before the Lover era, my young adult child came out as transgender. It changed everything I ever knew about the queer community, which changed my life. I was now looking through a completely different lens & I love it. I love learning about flagging, terms, song interpretation…all of it. My son coming out & my eyes opening to Taylor at the same time was & is such a beautiful journey to me. A whole life of heteronormativity pounded into my brain crumbled and I’m so happy for that!
Maybe I need more of a life but being a Gaylor/Kaylor is now an important part of me & my world. To pretend it isn’t would be lying. My twin knows this but doesn’t allow me to talk about it. When I do, she becomes disgusted & finds a way to change the subject even though she knows it hurts me. She’s so fed up with me about it that I think we are headed toward a massive argument. She’s seen me in tears over her attitude & shutting down the convo. I know a lot of you guys simply don’t speak about Gaylor to others but I have a BIG mouth & I refuse to act like it’s not a part of me.
So when I read this NY Times article and had a good cry, I want nothing more than for my sister to read this!!!! I really think if she read it she would see it’s not me being crazy or delusional! I think it would open her eyes to the possibility that Taylor is queer! But a huge problem I see in my situation is that bc she has such a little fuse about the subject, then this article is way too long for her. She’s very contrary & I think the only article she would agree to read would have to be shorter (and yet every word of the article is so important!) I think just seeing the length of it would be a hard pass bc it would mean giving her time to a subject she thinks is literally insane. She especially hates Kaylor, so I love the article being muse-less & I do think that would be a plus for her. But her being so inclined to disagree she will probably give it not a second thought.
TL;DR
I wish the article was a bit shorter only so more stubborn Hetlors would be willing to read it!! We know every word is important and should be heard but just a peak at the length of the article may be a turn off for some
