San Francisco’s underground water cisterns, a backup supply to fight fires in case an earthquake cuts off the water mains.
A friend of mine got to wander around the cisterns under Istanbul early this morning and sent along these pictures.

Ingvar Cronhammar (Dec. 17, 1947 - 2021) was a Swedish-born Danish installation artist whose work often was monumental and borrowing from an industrial aesthetics.

Incredible find. They are almost completely intact. And I love the idea of a Roman city called Metropolis. Awesome.
