2, 3, 11!
You're my girl, Addie.
2. When did you first connect to other people via computers?
In 1999 I was eleven and I discovered my first fandom: Roswell. My first fandom friends were made on a forum. I shipped Max/Liz. We called ourselves Dreamers. I wrote fic IN the forum posts. Sometimes my parents would reclaim our dialup and I would press "post" without any internet connection and lose all 350 words of terrible OOC fic I was planning to share with the world.
In like 2001 I connected to people in a non-fandom capacity through some database of MSN IM users (I think? Does that sound real?) I had a big contact list of strangers who I talked to about... no idea. That lasted for about a year. By the time I was in high school, all my online friendships started out as fandom-based. Welcome to The OC, bitch!
3. We’re/are you on AOL? Compuserve? LJ? Dreamwidth? A Listserv? Other?
AOL! My best friend in eighth grade had AOL and I thought it was SO COOL so I made my parents get it for us, too.
I was hardcore on LJ for about six years, both ~journaling and (mostly) posting/reccing/commenting on fic. And I actually still use it regularly for sharing and snagging ebooks and sometimes for commenting on fic when I get lost and find myself away from AO3.
I also used Yahoo Groups but I can't imagine for what right now. Keeping up to date on news? Finding fic? Possibly just keeping a record of the things I liked. Remember fanlistings?
11. How many places (towns, states, countries) have you lived in?
3 states, four cities, all in the US: New York, NY until I was 7. San Francisco, CA until I was 13. Bend, OR until I went to college back in the Bay Area, and I've lived in Oakland, CA ever since!
