Just sayin’, but Shun is totally the kind of big brother and/or guardian who’ll flick his sister’s forehead when he believes she’s fussing over something ‘minor’ or getting her priorities wrong. And yup, he’s definitely had a “Geez, you’re such a brute, Nii-san!” directed at him quite a few times in his life.

He’s also the type to show affection by ruffling Ruri’s hair despite her protesting about how she has to style it again now.

This is not to say that Shun’s a brute in general or a bad brother (like hell he is) or that he’s fundamentally incapable of being gentle with his little sister (or just unwilling to be gentle in the first place), but we shouldn’t forget that he’ll always be a bit on the rougher side in this kind of position too XD

Ah, and I can absolutely see Ruri secretly coming to think of Shun’s forehead flick as a reassuring gesture once she realizes that well, many times, her brother is right about how she’s just overthinking and if she asks him to, he can rationalize her problems away pretty easily and/or go straight for their source. Though... that still wouldn’t stop Ruri from pouting at first XD

views underground fights as a ‘necessary evil’, never questions Shun’s decision of choosing this path to help them get by as his only option and makes sure to patch him up with a smile, not betraying how worried she truly is when he returns from a fight particularly battered; not afraid to cheer for him from the front row. She is, however, anything but ignorant to the true nature of these fights, the rigged conditions, and probably despises the promoters more than anyone else.

has reluctantly given up on her childhood dream of growing up a ‘fine lady’, restricting such thoughts to fantasies and daydreams alone, and wouldn’t even think of mentioning it or lamenting its abrupt end neither in front of Shun nor anyone else to not disrespect him

Those to have fallen so low and then lost what little they’d left in a pathetic fashion, having fallen for empty promises in their desperation, deserve to be crushed by the consequences of their ‘naivety’. Those who win are barely better.

the act Ruri puts up the most frequently causes her to appear even more aloof than before, though while the aim is to make others feel inferior in her presence, serving as a subtle warning to not do anything (more) stupid. At the same time, however, the danger radiating from her will never be more than a hunch, and Reiji’s enemies usually brush it off as ‘just their imagination’ in their arrogance.

Ruri’s hair clip is replaced with a big silk bow, her feather earrings with earrings of amethyst. As Reiji purchased both for her on their first outing after her first successful mission, she treasures them deeply, vowing to always keep them, a sentiment Reiji doesn’t quite understand as he can buy her accessories at any time, but which causes him to suspect Ruri of having a sense of self and therefore ‘humanize’ her for the first time. In turn, Ruri’s feather accessories are placed in a small box stuffed away in a cabinet and when she tidies out her wardrobe, she throws them out, confused as to why she has kept such ‘worn out trash’ in the first place. (whether Reiji retrieves them or not depends on his reaction to encountering Shun)

Cannot cook; is at some point being taught the art of tea ceremony and some cake and dessert recipes as per Reiji’s suggestion; has a strong desire to prepare Reiji’s expensive coffee to his complete satisfaction and succeeds after a couple of attempts, turning the act of Ruri serving him coffee into a cherished ritual.
