Yknow, there's one thing I thought of. You know how in the "dealing with abusive friendships" post (which mostly covered match n bubble) you talked about the depth of the apology scene (between bubble and match in episode 11) you cover it so well. All the points you make are important, yet I feel as though most people don't recognize that sort of thing the way it really IS. (Cont in part 2 because it goes over the word count)
No, no, I understand what you mean (and I am SO sorry for the incredibly late answer, I’ve been so busy lately).
The fandom revolves around the target demographic (8-12 year olds), and the rest that are older are ABSOLUTELY allowed to enjoy it, obviously, since cartoons aren’t just for kids! However, because they make up the bulk of the fandom, they’re the reason many of the good characters get eliminated.
Like, sure, Match wasn’t the best ever. But I, and MANY others, wanted to see her improve and become on better terms with Bubble. That apology scene was amazing, yes, but I wanted to see more, to show she can change, because she’s by no means a bad person. She did make some wrong choices, but she can better them.
I do feel bad that the vote her out “for being mean!!!”… but it’s not like I’m gonna be angry at the kids or anything, like they’re kids, man. I do wish they could see the bigger picture, though. Thankfull, BFB is taking the “nice characters are flat and boring” trope and breaking its neck. I mean, have you seen Leafy’s development lately? Bless…
