I love these #holiday gatherings. Overseas on active duty, you can’t escape them; you see your colleagues at work; at home; you go out with them; your entire life revolves around each other; you go from colleagues-to-good friends-to-family. It’s a little harder in #civdiv in CONUS, but #friendships still develop, and it’s still sad to see them go. . We had a #gumbo contest. There was a hands-down winner. He had an unfair advantage - he’s about 6’5”, 280lbs of tatted muscle and southern food. Dude freakin’ grew up in Louisiana. Kid eats, breathes and shits New Orleans. Gotta admit, it was freakin deliciousness. His Naval opposition, of course, 6’0” of MMA expertise and an undefeated record, it was time for him to experience how it feels to lose. . The chili contest took a little longer to decide a winner. There was an argument between a soldier and sailor about the number of “L’s” in the word, “#Chili”. A group of us wanted to help out, but - Sometimes, you gotta step back and let people work it out themselves. It took about two tie-breakers before we decided on a winner, and whoa - the winner, a retired USAF MSgt really threw it in their faces. It was like the word #humility of #humble never existed. These #USAF guys are pretty confident when it comes to makin’ chili, man. . Christmas is around the corner. Then, New Years. We’re heading into 2019. Am I making any changes or planning anything? Not really. I’m stepping into 2019 with the same mentality as I have these last 20 years or so; to keep my eyes and my mind open, to keep the world laughing as much as possible, and to focus on what’s important to me. . Oh, I lied. I might make ONE teensy change. I’m gonna try to be a little more - um...punctual for things. It's been a loooooooong run, but the days left are at 1, and then I'm all done. This journey started June 10th 2009, and it will end June 9th 2014, . . . but my terminal leave starts tomorrow so Imma have about 19 days of "paid vacation"! LOL. Either way, it's not over for me.
