Clean White
My aim for tomorrow is to shoot a series of differently composed images with my lecturer wearing his bird watching gear, in his spare time, he enjoys fishing and bird watching, but I felt the bird watching would make for a slightly more interesting portrait in the studio.
For the brief, I will be exploring different shots involving close ups or full body shots surrounding the equipment my lecturer has brought. I have some ideas in mind, I had some difficulty finding some inspiration regarding bird watching, so I looked into portraits and images surrounding fishing, while different, some of the gear is rather similar in size or looks, so I felt this was my safest bet to study on.
Richard Avedon’s work in particular has helped me to identify and capture the character and posture of my subject. The aim isn’t to just snap a photo and pass it off as a clean white portrait, I aim to try and capture my lecturer’s interest in bird watching, to photograph one of his passions through.
Equipment and Lighting
The lighting I absolutely loved working with was the Clamshell Lighting technique, I knew from the moment we were told about the clean white brief that this is the lighting I want to use because I loved the use of catchlights. Last week helped me to understand more on what I would like to come out of my image, I am toying with the idea of playing with silhouette type of image, but I’ve not fully decided on this yet.
The equipment I will be working with is:
Camera 550d
A soft box
Beauty dish
Two flags
Light meter
Hotshoe adaptor
Sync cable
Whtie background
Shooting
This will be my second shoot for the clean white brief, I have a better idea and plan of what I want to do and shoot and tomorrow’s shoot will help me to see what exactly I need to work on for my last shoot to get it as perfect as possible.
