Not to say there’s anything inherently wrong with flashy - I don’t watch porn for the plot after all - but there’s a difference between satisfying oneself with a quick tug and settling in for a languid session. Given how BioWare are pushing for a long-term ‘game as service’ option it’s baffling how they’ve consistently failed to give me a reason to care beyond ‘look at this cool thing’

I had my fill of plotless-but-cool stompy mech action with Titanfall 2. If BioWare want me to get interested in Anthem they’ll have to try harder

this is basically my take. the gameplay looks fun enough but nothing new, nothing really to entice me. especially given the lack of story (something that was at least a good fallback even for jankier experience like ME1). so. idk. i hope it's successful bc i want the studio to get a leg up after MEA but i'm not incredibly optimistic

My feelings too. Even Andromeda ended up not quite deserving of all the crap slung at it. That said I fear there’ll be no saving the company if Anthem fails to deliver and it won’t be because EA shitcans them

so, not that this is a suggestion you would want to try now, but maybe when think you can reasonably handle having greasy unwashed hair, try not washing it with anything but water for while? sometimes that balances out oil production, like it lets your scalp de-stress from being constantly stripped w/ shampoo? idk man, i know there has to be a solution. (also apologies if you’ve tried this, i couldn’t remember!)

Thank you! I have definitely tried this, and it requires being able to not have to be at work for a bit because it gets, like... really, really gross after the first day. My hair looks dripping wet if it goes about 16 hours without shampoo (which is why I always have to shower in the mornings), so when I skipped a day or two I felt like I had to wash my pillowcase pretty much every day, and I never noticed an improvement. I may have to see a dermatologist (except I never feel like my scalp or face are oily, which is weird - it’s just the hair, starting like half an inch away from the roots).

I’m going to try some different brands of shampoo and just... hope for the best, I guess. I have another consultation with my hairdresser, who was completely baffled last time.

totally unrelated but i was combing through people's bookmarks on ao3 to find some new fic, and one of yours (e-rated, i believe) was bookmarked with just the comment 'well goddamn' and it made me laugh (also, i'd read the fic and concurred, fwiw.)

...i did not learn about either of those things until high school, and probably still don't entirely understand them properly. godspeed little first graders, godspeed.

Right?  For me, it was probably college economics before I heard those terms specifically.

I was thinking of who my OCs would kiss for OC kiss week and kinda drew a blank. Dinah Shep and Berry Shep would probably go, “eh, you’re hot, like me. Let’s do it.” 

But Grace... She’d be far too intimidated by say, Emeline Trevelyan or Oddveig Cadash to approach them so she’d just be standing there wiping her sweaty palms on her trousers. 

Then I thought, Moira Trevelyan! She’d totally be able to kiss Moira! Then I remembered that THEY ARE COUSINS. GRACE, NO.

it really does make me wonder what they were doing for those five years. because it's not like they didn't have the time - it just appears to have been used in the most inefficient manner possible. i think you're right, either way, about the game needing to be scaled back. i wish developers would stop with the bigger is better ethos - some games truly do benefit from having a more contained, streamlined vision

DX:HR and MD reportedly had this problem in development but the difference was was that they recognised it, pared it back and they were all the better because of it

I suspect that the move to Frostbite had a hand in it - a couple of people I know in games development say that Frostbite is a very powerful but difficult engine to work with. I just wished someone at BioWare had the balls to say ‘we need to scale it back’

Devs, please for the love of Christ, it’s okay to rein in your ambition sometimes

i've played about three hours and tbh i think people are overblowing it. is there jank? yeah, but it's pretty classic bioware jank. they haven't taken the ten leaps back people think they have. that said, there are some issues with the models that make them rather uncanny valley, and that highlights the animation issues more than the models in the OT did.

basically i think bioware ran into the issue of suddenly being able to make very realistic models but not having caught up in the animation department, and the difference between the two makes for an odd match. the animations are actually v similar to the OT, I think the sheer weirdness of how they can look on a hyperrealistic face is just kind of jarring

gotcha. that’s an interesting new issue. someday, somehow, everything will be ironed out and the only weird thing about games will be how unnervingly realistic they are, i’m sure. :)

but ia the marketing has definitely not been aimed or at least landed with the diehard fans, but idk if that's who they ever planned on relying on to make this a hit

I think with the diehard fans Anthem just could not shake off Destiny’s stench which is a shame because by all accounts major outlets are at least saying that they’re having fun with the game - the most common compliment I’ve seen is that the gunplay is well-thought out and flying feels natural and spectacular at the same time. It’s not PC optimised though which is annoying

I’m inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt but I’m not sure the gaming industry has cottoned on to the fact that every single big player is now not only chasing after gamer’s dwindling bank accounts but also after their time, a far more precious resource - forget microtransactions, I fear what’ll hurt gaming in the long run is this bastard ‘live service’ bullshit.
