anonyme - Musicien jouant du Paiban (clapet), aquarelle sur papier, fin du 18ème siècle, 43,2 x 35,6 cm, The Met
I have a remake for Delicatessen that I’ve been sitting on where the ending changes because I didn’t like the ending
So when the final fight is happening and Clapet is about to kill Louison, the Mailman should appear and Julie should have exposed him for trying to rape her at gunpoint which angers Louison and Clapet so Clapet changes his target and starts throwing butcher knives at The Mailman and that’s when Mademoiselle Plusse gives Louison “The Australian” and he uses it to kill The Mailman, solving the issue of the tenants and their meat
Clapet realizes that Louison really does love Julie and cares about her and reluctantly lets her live and even hesitantly accepts their vegan lifestyle, as they use the grain from the Troglos to grow a garden on top of the roof as the atmosphere has gotten slightly better and they can now grow things so cannibalism doesn’t have to be an option for longer
Clapet now starts killing the mailmen who wander by instead of his handymen and reluctantly accepts Julie and Louison’s relationship and veganism while he still can make a living and Louison reluctantly accepts the cannibalism too because his veganism only really applies to animals instead of being bothered by eating humans since his chimp assistant was violently killed and eaten so he’s cool with the cannibalism as long as animals aren’t being harmed
I know it’s a typical “happy ending” but like I like mine better.
