The Light Footed Clapper Rail is a species of bird found exclusively in the salt marshes between Santa Barbara, California into Baja California. It was listed as endangered in 1970 and is a subspecies of the Ridgway's Rail. Poor unfortunate little #ClapperRail last week at #SilverSandsStatePark in #MilfordCT! Though the experts say it would have been fine without the toe, I’m hoping the adult lashing it got was just running it of and it made it! I’m not super soft hearted because it’s small just don’t like to see things in pain! I was so enamored with these birds! Watching them chase each other was like watching raptors in Jurassic Park 2 cut through the grass! I’m slightly unnerved by them now but I’ll get over it! Don’t know why I was so determined to see these #ClapperRails. Possibly squinting a lot into the marsh this summer while I hear them but can’t see them! For something supposedly so shy into the reeds they were pretty friendly! If anything has ever reminded me of Jurassic Park it’s these birds running through the shallow water and parting grasses calling and looking for each other! These are the raptors in the grass! The clever girls! Too funny watching them from up high making paths.
