This is a bit different from my previous posts however I wish to spread awareness of the glorious news!
A few days ago, at the Derby test track, 507001 ran under its own power for the first time in nearly a year, and the first time at all in preservation, making it, along with 313201, one of the first 3rd rail electrics to move under its own power in preservation, so let’s celebrate the monumental achievement!

First fruits of a mad dash after church altar serving duties last Sunday up to Hooton in Merseyside, Cheshire, to see the end of the Wirral Swansong enthusiast railtour, which marked the end of the 1970s built PEP class 507 trains on the Merseyrail Wirral Line. The 20 or so minutes the train was in the platform gave opportunity to get a couple of "old vs new" photographs with the new class 777 METRO trains replacing them. The results were not quite as stellar as I was hoping, but the quirks of the station layout and number of people on the platform made it somewhat challenging to get anything better. Merseyrail are planning another farewell railtour on the City Line, so hopefully that offers a better shot.
