I got to spend a bit longer on an old class 599 metrocar on the Tyne and Wear metro. I always hate seeing old trains getting scrapped, and they're more comfortable even with seats a decade since refurbishment, but to be fair... They are pretty knackered.
Still nice to see though. And at the full 50mph, there's a real sensation of speed!

The seats are pretty knackered but honestly still a bit more comfortable than the new ones. The new ones obviously have slightly better accessibility with the partial gap filler, more standing room, more room in general, the convenient walk-through and the cut resistance of being fairly large units. The comfortable direction facing seats are really nice though.
Ok I'll admit a benefit of the new Tyne and Wear metro units is that sitting down on the lateral seats feels less invasive than joining someone in a bay. The old ones are more comfortable though.
