Legion Class Preview Series: Monk - World of Warcraft
This is really really really interesting. I know people are salty about these changes, but to me they actually look really interesting. Sure, it’s a strange direction to take us, but they’re interesting looking spells. Perhaps the removal of chi might’ve been a bit much, but the switch to pure healing only concerns me in that we might seem a bit similar to other healers now. I think that last part is countered by the idea of the small aoe spot heals (Vivify) and the larger more spread aoe healing from Essence Font. Sure, we’re much more HoT reliant now than before - but only in the sense that ReM will now be a heavy hitter.
I think having the range we do between these spells is going to result in us zipping around the battlefield to be near spots to pop off an Essence Font, or a Vivify whilst keeping people up with Effuse and our Soothing Mist passive. It’ll create like pockets of healing that move with us, almost. Instead of being reliant on where ReM went, we actually control the placement of these spells, giving us much more control over the placement of our healing than before. The new mastery is also interesting, though I’m not sure what to make of it really. It basically is multistrike for our targeted heals, so, that could end up working out really well maybe, but it no longer interacts with our chi pooling and build up so it could well just fall flat.
One thing I’m hoping they might bring back, as is a friend of mine, is the healing orbs....those things are fun little placement spot heals on the fly. Though it looks like Effuse has taken that slot I guess, not quite in the same way though.
So all in all, greater spell control, but perhaps less difficulty with the removal of chi and all the extra abilities that gated. Plus the loss of the platforming of other spells, something which I dearly loved about this spec was that build up before the execution. It was however, a pretty big downfall if you were caught unprepared, so perhaps this will work out for the better. Plus, these new spells and their effects look really interesting, so damnit, I’ll still probably be maining this gal in legion, because I really think I might enjoy these changes.
The playstyle looks like it’ll be completely different, but I guess that’s kinda half the point.
Also I just woke up so this is kinda just a ramble and not a complete breakdown of these changes yet. I’ll go more in depth when I have the time (being guilt tripped into helping someone move).
