The end credits are going and all of the monsters (minus Nagatha, of course) are chasing after Harvey with Norman chasing after them. I only have two things to say about this.
Aww
and...
Holy crap, you two already have a kid?! How?!
Apparently the wife of the monster that kidnapped the Bride is cussing him out, and Claude comments that she reminds him of Nagatha in a way. I’m sorry, but that’s just left me with the mental image of Nagatha constantly swearing, and that’s just something I don’t think I can handle right now.
Also, there’s this joke(?) immediately afterwards where she reminds Claude of Nagatha “around the waistline” and it pans down to his hips?
I seriously thought I’d imagined this part during my first viewing, but nope.
Maybe I’m too not-straight to understand this, but why did they do that? The animators didn’t need to show us that. All you’re doing is making me think “yep, Claude certainly has some nice hips” and make me wonder if someone working on this thought the same thing.
Oh god, Dracula and Claude are talking about how The Monster is going to “give up [his] freedom” (it pains me to say those are Claude’s own words) once he gets married tomorrow and are bringing up stories that are embarrassing him.
Look, Claude wasn’t a saint in Mad Monster Party, but for goodness sake, he wasn’t like this. They’ve reduced my favorite character to your basic straight “marriage is terrible” “jokes” and I hate it. He’s lucky that I find his design and voice are as adorable as I do otherwise I’d probably hate him more.
While Claude’s introducing his family to Dracula and Dracula’s introducing at least Ghoul to his son, I’m gonna bring up one other nitpick I have about Claude: his voice.
They did bring back Allan Swift from the other one to voice everyone he did in that one (plus the kids and Ygor, and minus Quasimodo since he’s not in this for some reason), and they all sound at least within the ballpark of how they did in Mad Monster Party... except for Claude. In Mad Monster Party he sounded similar to Sydney Greenstreet (for reasons that will forever baffle me), but in this one he... well, he very obviously doesn’t. It might have been an attempt at trying to impersonate Claude Rains (which would be kinda obvious, but man would that be hard to pull off well) since he sounds very obviously British in this, but that just makes me wonder why they made that switch. Did they forget what Claude sounded like in the first one? Was Greenstreet too hard of an impression for Swift to do for longer periods of time? This is a really minor thing, I know, but I’m very confused.
Oh my god, they’re still sniping at each other during the wedding! Why the fuck did you two ever get together, let alone stay married long enough to have a kid?!
...Actually, I have a theory for that. They both had a known wild streak when they were much younger (and in some ways still do, if the aftermath of the bachelor party was any indication), which was how they met and first got together. Just as they were realizing that they weren’t a good match for each other and were about to break up, they find out that Claude had gotten Nagatha pregnant. Against her mother’s wishes for her to find a better solution to this situation, Nagatha married Claude and they’ve only stayed married for the sake of Ghoul.
Do you see how terrible this is when you stop and try to think about why two characters who never share a single moment where it seems like they even vaguely like each other are together as a couple at all?
